Questionable
Purchased to prevent Twp sewer line back flow. Purchased needed 6 in and 4 in PVC pipe and cut to required length. Assembled unit -- all instructions are clear and followed. Once assembled Checked that flapper was in position and working properly. Before placing the unit 5 ft underground -- I decided to test the unit with water. On the downstream sewer side of valve body I attached a 90 deg elbow with the end facing up in a vertical position and then added additional 4 ft of PVC pipe to the elbow outlet facing up. Then I poured a 5 gal bucket of water into the end of the vertical PVC pipe ---- the water then easily flowed out of the 'building' side of the valve body -- thus bypassing the closed flapper. The flapper does not really seal sufficiently to cut off all water back flow. Called customer service and was told the unit is designed to seal at higher back flow pressure (up to 60 psig) . But my city sewer line back flow will only generate less than 3 -4 psig or 6 ft head of pressure max.---- so I don't expect the unit will work for my situation. I think a better flapper / seal design is needed.

flooding basement solved
Problem solved, we learned the hard way that our septic tank when flooded was slightly higher than our basement floor. This check valve was the best solution. Good installation instructions. Solved the water back up problems when flooded.

Over Priced X2+ Hidden Cost
Look for a 6”dia X ( your required set depth) lg sch40 PVC and the threaded 6” fitting and plug before you buy this kit. You also will need 2 adapter fittings for sch40 OD X sch35 OD to glue into both ends ( if use sch35 pipe in/out).Check with your local sewer/water pipe supply for alternative mfg. This could have saved me $$.00 and headache sizing outside pipe.

All Home Owners With A Sewer Line Need One Of These
I highly recommend the Rectorseal 97024 four inch PVC Clean Check Extendable Backwater Valve for it's quality construction and design. We have a septic sytem for our sewage waste. Our house is only 8 years old and we were the 2nd owners. When we initially purchased our house insurance and everytime that we changed insurance companies the questionaire always asked if we had a back water flow valve in the main sewage line. Of course we didn't know and the past house owners didn't know. Just recently we had issues with our septic system and it set off our high level alarm. After all said and done, we had to replace all our floats and pump. We decided to ask the plumber if we had a back water flow valve and he said no with 99 percent confidence. So we found the Rectoseal 97024 four inch PVC Clean Check Extendable Backwater Valve for sale on Amazon. We had done my research on internet to be quite confident that this was the product we needed. We bought it and asked the plumber to install it. The plumber had never seen an extendable back water. The great feature of this back flow valve that it is accessible from above ground and you can determine if you have a sewage back up from the city main sewer or if your septic system backs up. It doesn't matter if the back water flow valve is 2 feet or 24 feet below the top surface of your grass or dirt or gravel lawn, you don't have the expense of having to dig it up and have to deal with a man hole. I dug the hole down to the sewer pipe to save on labour costs. The plumber and I installed it together. It was a simple assembly but we had to take our time to measure twice and cut once, as well as to decide what was to be the next sequential step. It was all done in 2 hours from start to finish because we were learning how to install it as we thought through the process. I purchased the 2 and 4 inch PVC pipe and 2 inch top adapter with screw top lid that was needed but not part of the kit. I asked the plumber to purchase the 6 inch PVC pipe as well as the 6 inch top adaper with a screw top lid that was also needed but not part of the kit because the local retail plumbing suppliers near me didn't have them at the time. If you want to save yourselves a miserable stinky mess inside your house and the inconvenience of cleaning up the mess as well as the cost to employ a plumber to clean out your sewage pipes, do yourself a favour and buy this extendable back water flow valve !
