A Good Beginning to a New Series
I liked this book. It was interesting with recipes and tidbits about honey and its use. It was full of action with never a dull moment. I gave it 4 stars vs. 5 because it did seem to go on a bit long in the action even though it was important to the story. Also, I thought the ending was a bit abrupt and frankly a bit odd related to the final comment by one of the characters. Overall, I liked the story. I liked the characters. I loved Everett the cat. I liked the fall Halloween time of year setting for the book. So, there is much to like and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Halloweentown Tragedies
Ever read a book and feel like you want to take the main character and shake them as you say, "Do what the heck you are told!" Well you feel this way all through this book as Wren is told what to do or not to do by the police officer in charge or by her attorney, and she does the exact opposite, and does it constantly. I will also say, this book does not follow a lot of common sense. However, the author weaves a good story and I have elected to give it five stars based on a good story whether good sense is exhibited or not.

Bees
Wren has a honey & bee product shop in Oceanview, Oregon along the coast. It is of course a fictional town but it was a lovely place to visit just the same. When is walking her cat Everett and finds a dead woman on the beach. The woman has a lip balm label clutched in her hand and it’s one of Wren’s, which makes her the prime suspect in the local detective’s mind.Wren wants to prove her innocence so she involves her Aunt Eloise and her employee Porsche in trying to figure out what really happened. There’s a negative effect on Wren’s shop, the possibility that the dead woman was blackmailing people, the excitement of Halloween week, the disappearance of Everett and Wren being watched so try to keep her from being blamed for anything else that goes wrong in Oceanview. The story is interesting, fun and well written. Wren did some dumb things which knocks off a star for me.

crafting at its best
Great characters and they were easy to follow. The mystery itself had you guessing right up to the end. Loved the weather which made it cozy. Let’s give a shout out to Everett. Looking forward to book two.

Forgettable and Often Irritating
This cozy mystery is light, frothy, and forgettable with a little murder and a very little romance. The premise is that the proprietor of a small Main Street shop in a small coastal town in Oregon discovers a body while taking her cat for a walk on the beach. Wren, our shopkeeper, becomes our amateur detective when the murder weapon was a proprietary lip balm made at Wren’s Let It Bee Honey Boutique and the victim turns out to be a rival of her Aunt’s. So of course, Wren must investigate. The book does not portray the police as corrupt or incompetent which is a plus. There are little touches that are intended to add interest to the story such as the cat who likes to take walks on a leash, crafts, an over-the-top town celebration of Halloween, facts about honeybees, and recipes for honey cosmetics and candies. Your tolerance or affinity for those sorts of things may influence how much you enjoy this book. I found that these things were not very attractive to me and certainly not sufficient to carry the story. This is the first book in a series which means that the author must establish the setting, introduce the continuing characters, create “guest” characters who will appear only in this book, and tell a story that is entertaining so that the reader will want to read the next one. Nancy Coco has written other successful series, so she understands what to do. The pacing is brisk, and the pages turn quickly. There are parts of the story where the tension level rises which would add more interest, if the reader was not thinking that the danger was created by Wren being so foolish. My best advice as you consider whether to read this book is to know who you are. If you like cats, crafts, and cozies with recipes, you may enjoy this story. It was not entertaining enough for me to read another one. I bought this book for less than a dollar on a Kindle deal, and it was not worth more. The Kindle version does include recipes for honey-based candies and cosmetics, none of which I would ever consider trying. The book does not push the boundaries of a cozy. There is murder, but there are no gory details. The language is mild, and the romance barely reaches the level of a juvenile crush.

Delightful Read
This surprising, delightful read was a book club choice, and I put off starting it because I didn't think I would enjoy--Coco proved me wrong. The level of bee information was interesting without becoming overwhelming or boring. The story moved along at a nice pace and kept my interest throughout. I read 90% of it the first night! The recipes were interesting and informative enough that I am going to try them all. I look forward to the next book in the series and highly recommend Nancy Coco and her Honeycomb series.

Cute story with the cat!
I liked the story and not easy to figure who was doing the murder. I also liked that the bees are in the story.
