First 30 days are OK - Five months later it's even more OK
I walk my dog a lot. We average 40+ miles per week. Other cheap hiking shoes/boots don't get it if you are max-ing out their usage. The cheap unnamed ones, one third the cost of Danner, wore out in a month. The last pair of cheapies wore through the cheap rubber heel and sole to the air cushion construction rendering them useless in four weeks. After 30 days wearing my Danner boots, the heel and sole wear is at a slight minimum. (Danner claims that their sole material, Vibram, is a superior and log wearing rubber.) Granted, it is winter and the shoes have had a little benefit of low abrasion from ice and snow, but they still seem to be holding as I expect. As of yesterday, they are still waterproof, I'm happy to say. I paid a lot more for these boots, like three times more, and they should last more than three months. I hope they will because if they do, I will buy another pair of Danners when the time comes. Look for an 'wear' update in two months to this review to monitor my progress if you're interested. It's now my fifth month anniversary with a daily average close to, if not, 6 miles per day and I still have soles. The Vibran heel part has been wearing down to the next layer but non of that cheap shoe waffle under structure in sight. So I think I will have a couple or three months more out of these. I will keep you posted after three months. The body of the shoe is great. Still waterproof with the suede in great condition. I cleaned them once with suede cleaner and a waterproof spray. Evewn the shoe laces are the originals. These boots are very very good.

(Mostly) Awesome pair of boots!
I bought these in the dark brown suede, and they look and feel great. As others have pointed out, they don't breathe very well (or at all), so I couldn't imagine wearing them on hikes in hotter weather. The inside liner (Danner Dry) is almost like a thin layer of plastic, so by the end of the day, my feet are definitely a little sweaty. However, I bought these to wear in a more casual setting (I work in academia), so I'm usually sporting them with jeans and a flannel or sweater to work, with the idea that they could also double as hikers if I travel someplace where I might hit some trails (although I haven't tested them on any terrain yet). They definitely run a little large in both width and length. I'm a consistent 8.5 in every shoe I own, but bought these in 8 and they fit perfectly. I also have "slightly" wide feet, so I'm usually in between medium and wide widths, but the medium width fit just fine....so if you're only slightly wide, you'll probably be fine with medium. They're also made of leather, so any tightness you may feel at first will stretch out after a day or two of wear.To summarize, as someone who hikes a bit, I'd be hesitant to use these as my main hiking boots, especially in warmer weather, given their lack of breathability (I have a few pairs of Gore-tex hikers that perform much better in this area), but these boots are really cool, with that classic hiking boot look, and are a great all-around boot that could do some light trail work during the day, (and assuming they don't get too dirty), pair with some jeans for an evening at the pub. I'm already looking to buy another pair in a different color. It's my first pair of Danner's, but probably won't be my last!

It also is comfortable right out of the box
I've tried several different models of Danners in similar styles, including the Vicious and the 435. All of them have the same problem, a loose-fitting heel, because the heel cups don't contour up the back of a heel. The new Mountain 600 fits very well all around, and does not have any heel lift. It also is comfortable right out of the box. So comfortable, in fact, that I hope they don't break in! They feel soft around the foot, and fit like a glove. The soles have flex lines built in so they flex along your foot's natural bend when you walk. I've not worn them outside the house yet, but they feel very good on flat, hard floors, unlike hiking shoes that eventually cause the bottom of your feet to ache if you're on hard surfaces a lot. I'm a professional dog trainer, so I am on concrete and asphalt a lot, and like leather uppers to help protect my feet from dog's teeth. The footbed in the 600 is both supportive and comfortable. While the tongue of the 600 is not leather, the design of the 600 is such that the tongue is quite protected by the lacing. I also am in dew-laden grass from time to time, so I like waterproof, which I hope the Danner Dry handles well. I also need "agile" shoes that move with me, as well, like when I changed directions quickly with a dog, or need to run or jump, or whatever, and hiking boots typically don't accommodate for this type of motion because you feel like you're on "top" of those type of supportive footbeds and soles. The 600, on the other hand, feels like I am "in" the shoe, which is much, much better. I got the dark brown, but just so you know, the color is really more of a dark slate grey with the brown hue to them.Update October 27, 2016: After wearing them at home for a few hours over a few days, I noticed some pushing on the outsides of my big toes, to the point that they became uncomfortable, and realized that although they were roomy otherwise, the shape of the last curved in a bit too much for my foot (even though looking at the shape it didn't seem so). I exchanged them for a 1/2 size up, which gave me more room for the toes, but ended up being too big. I also noticed over this testing period that they get hot and don't breathe AT ALL! I've changed my rating to 3 stars because of this fact, which is quite important in footwear. I mean, my sock were soaked, and when I pulled out the insoles to let them dry the insides on the bottom were soaked. My fingers dripped when I touched the insides, and it took two days to dry! Remember, all I did was wear them inside my house with no strenuous activity. I can't even imagine the issues that would be caused from having my feet encased in what felt like plastic bags while walking around over an extended period of time, let alone on a hike. Needless to say, I've given up on these boots. That's too bad, because they seemed very well made of quality materials.

Overall fantastic buy as it is useless buying lesser quality.
LIGHT boot - not heavy to wear that is. Lacing is superb. One year warranty? Yes, keeping the box, the bill but I doubt I will encounter failure . Delivery? What do you expect crossing the entire country in two days - eh?Wearing them inside the house for now to "warm-up" to make sure I do get a formed and fitted boot once taking out into the real world. AHEM! I do have a real dooser of a large toe deformation, that is why.

Quality hiking boot.
Fit was great. Make sure you measure your foot as I went a half size down due to buying the wide. This is one of the best fitting hiking shoes I have worn due to it being wide. This is a highly rated boot and you can see the quality in the materials usedHave yet to test in the field for longer hikes. If you can purchase through amazon.ca you will save yourself a bunch on duty and shipping.

Good shoes!
A really good/interesting combination - like my backpacking boots and my favorite sneakers were combined. Great for long walks- light, have some roll in the shape if the sole, supportive, and fit me well. They are what I was searching for.

Excellent hiking shoe
Excellent hiking shoe. Fits my wider foot and high arch perfectly. Stayed dry through a rainy hike. Only negative is that the laces slip, even with a double knot.
