The colour is...
So this hammer by far has exceeded my expectations of what the "norm" has so shameless become. Ya know buy expensive and it last a whole month longer than the same item for half price..sub satisfactory items are coming to a retail/online outlet near you, type of manufacturing attitude as of the last 8 years(that I've noticed). This item is just the opposite (things may have change from my time of purchase and someone else's). All I know is I have put this hammer through some serious treatment. Side loading the claw to extract duplex nails from concrete, using both the face and claw to chip excess concrete from footings or to free up my extension cord (ding dong put the left over from the shoot right on top of my cord, went unnoticed for a week).. what else?? And have used it for basic back framing tasks, general construction really. The claw shape is perfect, let's you get into areas a lot of other brands won't which means you don't have to pull out your catspaw as often. The weight for me was a bit to get used to (has good balance just heavy for long nailing sessions) as I get tennis elbow easily and the whole tendonitis for some reason has been crazy the past two years. Well I'm not racist nor is this review, however the meer fact of the dark colour pattern chosen by the manufacturer/developer is well difficult in most situations to see once set down.... Now now i can hear it now, "if you just set it down it should be right there" . Well from time to time we all have put something down...only to get distracted by someone or something else only to come back to the area you were last and not be able to locate an item for what seems like forever. All I'm saying here is to add pin stripe(s) that are fluorescent or just a different colour to black would help us old guys. I did have part of it painted with marking paint, but has to be applied. Thank you to the makers of a quality product and still making it affordable.

Seems like a good hammer for the money spent
I got this hammer for the sole purpose and fact of pulling staples. I also got it to get into outlets to pound nails and staples (the kind you pound in with out the use of a staple gun) to hang wire , romex, bx cables and such. Southwire has lifetime warranty on their products/ tools and we will see how well this electricians hammer will stand the test of time for durability and strength. Buy the looks and feel of this hammer it seems to be well made but like I said we will see how well this hammer holds up to the test of time. If you need an electricians hammer look no further than this one unless you have your mind set on the Klein version 18 Oz. I like Southwire as well as Klein and ideal version but they are more expensive than this one. If you like it get one and try it and see how you like it as much as I do.

Good hammer, just remember to wear gloves if using it for long periods
I like the balance of this 18oz hammer. It's a handsome looking hammer too.Handle is fibreglass + rubber. It offers a good grip. Doesn't transmit too much shock during use, but my index finger did get a friction blister after about 50 swings. So do wear gloves if using the hammer for prolonged periods.
