Pass the Mortgage Loan Originator Test: A Study Guide for the NMLS SAFE Exam

Just to begin, I took the NMLS Exam and passed the first time. It's not the hardest exam but those who do fail are those who do not prepare. This book is an excellent study guide to use rather than the course materials from the 20-hour class. As a reference, I took the 20-hour course through Learn Mortgage along with their practice exams and prepared for 2 months prior to the exam.This will highlight everything you will need to know. I read through this about 5 times and used the 3 practice tests in the back. From my experience, there isn't nearly as much math as the practice exams but you should know the general arithmetic to it. It's not hard, just know it. Follow this guide and for anything that doesn't make sense or you want more background, use your course materials and you should be able to pass.

The 20 hour modules you take online are actually way too extensive, the manual you can down load is 400 pages, impossible to retain all of it. This book helped to trim the material down, quite a bit from the models, and focused on salient information. I would recommend this book, and to buy several sample tests, if there is a question not covered research the info! Full disclosure I was an LO about 12 years ago, so already retained much of the basics. Got a 90 on first try. Good Luck!!!

Great book it covers every aspect of the required test. Literally if I haven’t bought this book I would not be doing what I m doing right now....working with great team and making money.

The info is split up by sections of the NMLS test, not my actual subject. If you want to learn aaaaaaall about RESPA in one section, and so on, this probably isn’t the study guide for you. If you don’t mind learning about RESPA under the chapter 1 federal law section, and a little more in a different chapter, then a different chapter, etc, this could work for you quite well. I like that the margins are wide enough to take notes. The glossary doesn’t have page numbers which is strange. The info is all there, you just need to make a mental map of the book to understand its layout to get the most from it though.

Terrible book. Just a crime and shame. The information is correct. But so poorly put together, you will be confused and defeated by the time you get to chapter two. Utterly disgusting. No attempt was made at comprehensive gathering of information. It’s just thrown together. Some of the information isn’t even testable. Like the statement meant on Adjustable rate mortgages. Yes it is important, but because it isn’t law or mandated by a law, it is useless information to passing of the SAFE test. Horrible book. Do not buy this version. Let them... NO demand, that they revise this egregious “manual”.

I have never worked in the mortgage industry, but I do have 5 years of financial experience in the government sector. Without ever working in the mortgage industry, this book helped me achieve an 86 on the MLO SAFE exam (you need a 75 to pass). I took the 18-hours of classes before picking up this book. I recommend taking and reviewing all practice exam questions in the back. The practice exams are very helpful. I reviewed them with a friend who is an MLO. It really helped to talk through the information.I read the book section by section (sometimes paragraph by paragraph), then I took notes on the important concepts.After I read the book and took all the notes, I went back and highlighted important information in my notes then referenced back to the corresponding information in the book and highlighted the information there.If the information was particularly important, I rewrote the buzzwords in the margins of the book and filled in gaps in my notes.In total, I spent about 35 hours studying using this book. I recommend picking up this book right after you take the required education (I used - and recommend - the online Mortgage Educators course). I packed studying this book into 10 intensive days.Put in the work! Good luck!

This book was super helpful in studying for the NMLS exam. I only wish the glossary in the back had page numbers to where they appear in the text.

I’m being 100% honest in saying that this book was amazing. For the price, you can’t beat it. It helps develop a deeper understanding of the NMLS guide. I passed on my first attempt with a 90%. Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on test prep. This book, along with the free resources on YouTube are more than enough to prep you for the national exam.
