Good product, works well
I am a retired RN and needed this to remove staples from my ADHD German Shepherd when she cut herself running through the yard and ran into a pair of pruning shears and cost me a fortune to get her sutured back up!. Much cheaper to get the from Amazon than paying what doctor and veterinary offices charge but the exact same ones I used to use in the hospital. These cost less than 10% of the price from a doctor or veterinarian.

They work for removing surgical staples!
I received them in two days! I had to purchase them because my mother broke her hip and the hospital never removed them before she left the hospital after being there for two weeks after the surgery and she was unable to be moved because of her age and condition and they had no nurses to come to the home to remove them so I was left with no other option but to remove them for her... thank god I took matters into my own hand because her skin had started to grow over the staples.. It was pretty much painless using this staple remover and I am glad this product is available to the public!

Needs an instructional video
I learned how to use these and the skin staplers in school back in the 80's. When I saw them for sale here i thought they might be good to have around for the pets, or as a stop gap on the way to the ER if a family member was seriously injured. If you have never used these before or have never seen them used go to YouTube and look for a video first. Since I have had too much coffee this morning, an explanation of its use follows.I had read mixed reviews before purchasing, each contradicting the previous. I thought maybe those who had problems were not aware of the basics regarding the placement and removal of skin staples. (Forgive me is this is common knowledge)When closing the surgical wound, the edges are elevated and brought together with forceps by the assistant, and the surgeon places the staple gun so that the edges of the skin are within the aperture of the gun. The staple is then placed by squeezing the handles of the gun together. The gun bends a piece of wire with sharp ends so that it pierces the skin, and folds itself under the incision forming what is nearly a complete rectangle. As a result the staple has a horizontal top, two vertical sides and two small horizontal pieces on the underside of the skin that nearly touch. These stay until the incision is completely healed. The remover works by bending the horizontal top of the staple into a V shape so that it pulls the vertical sides out of the skin and orients the bottom horizontal pieces into a more vertical orientation. This will not work if held upside down. The closeup photos above show the correct orientation of its jaws. Once completely bent, one applies mild traction along with a gentle side to side rocking motion which helps pull out the sharp ends of each staple. Occasionally you will encounter a staple that feels stuck, not easy to remove. You can avoid this by first gently wetting the row of staples with hydrogen peroxide which will act as a lubricant. it is a disinfectant, doesn't sting, and will dissolve any bits of dried blood that may impede removal.
