Dreamfever: Fever Series Book 4

Loved it! Can't put it down.
Just started this series not to long ago and I can't put them down. I went ahead and bought the whole series. The author writes intelligent, well thought out scenes. The flow of the story is continually suspenseful and easy to read. It's a new take on a old genre. You won't be disappointed...at least I don't think so, I don't know how the series ends;)

Getting better
Getting better and better as the books go on. I listened in audible and it is 100% better now with the new narrator

I was in a fever to finish Dreamfever. The momentousness of this series (and Dreamfever) is NOT an exaggeration!
You can guess from the book synopsis that Dreamfever is a dark story. But you should already know that if you read the first three books in the series. If you haven't you really need to go back and start with those because you will be very confused, possibly creeped out and definitely missing three amazing books.The moment Mac has dreaded - Halloween - has finally happened. The walls between our world and the Fae came crashing down and all the dark Fae, the Unseelie, have been released from the prison that held them for hundreds of thousands of years. And they are insatiably hungry. For sex, for death...and our world will never be the same.Mac, MacKayla Lane, is at the center of it all. As a sidhe-seer who can sense Fae objects she is desperate to find and contain the most powerful Fae Hallow, a book that contains all the dark magic created by the Unseelie King. She wants to put the walls back up and her world to rights. She is also driven by vengeance to find and kill her sister's murderer. However, Mac's problems keep adding up and just when you think she's hit rock bottom, nope. There is so much farther she can fall.Mac continues to find herself caught between the electrifying, enigmatic Jericho Barrons - who wants the book for his own reasons - and V'lane, a Seelie Prince. She also has to deal with Darroc, the Lord Master, who was her sister's lover. Mac's no longer sure the LM is responsible for Alina's death.On top of EVERYTHING else (Really? You're like: there's more? Yep.) Mac practically wages war to earn the loyalty of her fellow sidhe-seers. They are led by Rowena who is powerful, manipulative and nursing a major hate-on for Mac. Not since Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter have I felt such wholehearted loathing toward a character. It's becoming more and more evident that there aren't really heroes or villains in this series. Sure there are protagonists, but that doesn't make them good people. Even Mac has made a lot of hard choices. However, there is NOTHING that can alter my abhorrence of Rowena. Seriously, I'm getting worked up just writing about her so I'm stopping now.The best parts of this book include:1) Dani, a young sidhe-seer who has her own special gifts and a very dirty mouth2) The Silvers, another Unseelie Hallow of mirrors that permit travel to different places, time and dimensions3) A sexy Scottish Druid (named Christian, which I loved)4) Jericho Barrons, who I confess to despising at first. He's still an arrogant ass, but what a complex character! He definitely has his own code and that's what I admire most about him. He and Mac are still dancing around each other. He might not get much page time, but when he does? Wow.5) The darkness. This is definitely an adult story. Not only is there sexual violence (which I really hate to read), many, many people...die. There is so much death and destruction. But it doesn't make you depressed. If anything it forces you to keep your eye on that tiny pinprick at the end of the tunnel, even if you're not sure it's actually even there. Hope strengthens. Fear kills.Dreamfever is quite a bit longer than its predecessors, which I didn't realize until I had been reading for what felt like forever (on Kindle). I finally checked the actual page count online. I read this baby cover-to-cover one night after work and finished it in time for the 10 o'clock news...it definitely burned me out a little bit!I can't really compare anything else to the Fever series. Sure there are other stellar Urban Fantasy series out there - but these books are among the best. I honestly think they'd be unmatched if Mac's narration wasn't so bogged down by unneeded extended descriptions and her own windy inner monologue. There are also a few parts narrated by Dani. While her character voice is strong it's a little disjointing, and reading an entire book written in that manner would make me want to gouge out my own eyeballls. Karen Marie Moning's writing has seriously bewitched me. If I read other stories with similar narration ticks I wouldn't finish it. With the Fever series I can't put it down.My final quibble about this book is over all the bad stuff that happens to Mac. Not that it happens, but how she deals with it. This is another self-contradiction because one of the things I love most about Mac is her ability to keep going. She started out as pretty ignorant and honestly just too stupid to live. Now I have nothing but admiration for her. However, I wish there had been more of her coping with all the trauma she goes through. She takes hit after hit, and I feel like she should be more effected. Like I said. I hate to love it. Love to hate it? I dunno.If you want to read something unique and intricate that will screw with your mind (as evident if you just read my thoughts about it in this review) then the Fever series is for you. Dreamfever was amazing. Despite my complaints (it gets four stars from me) it still goes down as a favorite. I can't imagine a world in which we don't have authors like Karen Marie Moning who share their brilliance with us. I really can't. But now that I'm thinking about it's really freaking me out. Dreamfever! Read it!

A Review of Books 1-4! {NO Spoilers}
*Contains minor spoilers of the first book {Darfever}I fought the Fever for as long as I could! I was bombarded with tweets saying how amazing this series is, people telling me that they were succumbing to the Fever and suffering from its latest symptom, the killer cliffhanger left after Dreamfever and I simply said: NO! No, I won't come down with this Fever and deal with the wait for this final installment and suffer like everybody else! And I also thought to myself, "Who the Hell is this Barrons dude people keep swooning over?", even though I have Curran, Zsadist, Bones and so many more lovely males to keep me company, that alone let me intrigued.I gave in an inch when I purchased the four books in the series that were available, but I still didn't read them. I was going to avoid suffering this cliffhanger for as long as possible... and I almost did it! Damn it! Last week I gave in to the Fever and now, there is NO turning back! I am a convert and I am burning up!Confession time... Darkfever didn't impress me. I didn't love it and I was not blown away at all. We meet this shallow woman named Mac that is self-absorbed and selfish even when dealing with the loss of her dear sister. We get this jerk of a man that is so rude and tough that even his hotness I ended up ignoring for a while. Add to the mix a Fae Prince that has such a strong sexual vibe that the heroine almost gets raped in the middle of a museum. I cringed and almost put the book down, let alone thought about reading the next installments, but thanks to my blogging and tweeting friends I didn't give up... I am SO glad I didn't!I came to realize that my problems with Darkfever were all about the characters and not the story or the writing. THe characters need to be the way they are at that point and only by continuing reading the series and opening my mind and heart to the Fever, I was able to appreciate the amazing job KMM has done with this series.I devoured all four books in a few days! I have to warn you that each book kills you a little bit with a cliffhanger in the end, but since they are all out already, that can be dealt with by simply buying the next one LOL The Fever series is a flower amongst deserted lands. It's a Jewel I regret not having harvested before.There is so much action and such an incredible world building in this series that you will probably consider calling a couple sick days at work, so you can sink your teeth into these novels. Mac's journey is one of incredible strife, she is a woman seeking vengeance and finding that the world she knows is nothing like she thought. She is put through some extreme and simply unbelievable situations and she comes out better and stronger every single time! I went from hating her guts to admiring her through the novels and I have the brilliancy of KMM's storytelling to thank for that!Barrons... what can I say about the mystery that this man is? Now I understand why so many of my twitter friends swoon over him. He is hot and sexy in a VERY Alpha male way, dare I say... that he is the Most Alpha male of them all? I DARE!After the astounding cliffhanger we were left with at the end of Dreamfever, I can't wait for January 18th to arrive. I have a lot of expectations about the last book in the series, Shadowfever. The most important? I want Mac and Barrons together... I know this isn't a Paranormal Romance, but I have hopes for those two and since KMM has said that the is a romance in the series, I can't wait to see how she makes it happen!My dear readers, if you have the Fever there is not much I can't say that you don't know already, but if you haven't read this series yet... Get your ass in gear and buy these books RIGHT NOW! I promise you won't be disappointed!Originally Posted at Welcome to Larissa's Bookish Life

The 4th Fever book
I’ve already started the next book and Dreamfever’s cliffhanger is still the most wrenching ending ever!This book. My god this book was brilliant! The heart wrenching emotions in the start of this book, seeing a whole new side to Jericho, I LOVED it! You will feel all of the feels with this book.“That’s what really pisses me off. I don’t know. He was annoyingly vague.” Barrons looked at me, then a faint smile curved his lips, and for a moment I thought he might laugh. “The nerve. Threatening you and not being precise about it.”Each book gets darker and darker, this one especially. Full of angst, the world as you know it is over, the four horseman have arrived. I’m still rooting for Mac and Jericho through it all!‘This new Dublin was dark and creepy and … still not dead. The once-bustling Irish city was now undead. You could feel the life in her, lurking in the dark wreckage, but it was the kind of life you wanted to drive a stake through.’‘“And you can tell Darroc,” said Barrons, “that Ms. Lane is mine. If he wants her, he can bloody well come and get her.”’KMM has built such an intricate world, while still withholding all the answers! To say I can’t wait for the next book is an understatement!

A bridge to the final book in the arc.
*Trigger Warning: Rape/Dub-consent*As usual, I'll be super vague to avoid spoiler for this, and the other three books, but I'm so pumped to be back in Mac's world. The Fever series is an adult, urban-fantasy series, that deals with a fae world that exists alongside our own, one invisible to most people, most people. Mac is not most people. I never know where Moning is going to go with the plot, and nothing's changed. Personally, I could have done with more V'lane and Barrons, but I'm a patient gal. The dub-con/rape is not dealt with in the best way and is glossed over a lot. Dreamfever also felt very uneven at the end, like Pt.1 of a larger book, but onwards and upwards to the next one!
