Hildegard's Original Spelt Berries: Organic & Non-GMO Ancient Grains in Resealable, 16 ounce, Satchel

This is very good, easy to cook, I suppose I could run it through the grinder to try baking with it, but haven't so far.It's hard for me to answer "value," because I've spent harvests working the family farm. A bushel of dry-land wheat doesn't come easy, nor is it cheap to produce; at the same time, that scale is different than sitting at home in the city even if it's only a couple of hours away.I'm used to buying in bulk, but I know that for the kind of small farm that produces a niche product for the home consumer to use, the price has to support the farm, packaging, advertising, and the MASSIVE middle-man bite of retailing, the price of a package has to be enough. For this quality of product, I'm happy to pay my money to be able to buy it!If I don't buy it this year, THEY might not be ABLE to sell it to me NEXT year. Remember THAT when deciding whether to pass this delicious and nutritious product over, for more Cheese-Whiz!

I have been eating spelt for years. This is the first time I tried this brand and found it to be superior to the other brand I was buying. Just a tip, I soak the berries over night to shorten the cooking time. Great in a salad!

I grind my own wheat at home. I was looking for another option other than soft white wheat berries that I could use for biscuits and pastries. I read about spelt and decided to give it a try. I made sourdough spelt biscuits with these berries and they were so soft...even the next day, which normally mine turn hard after a day! I am thrilled that I found these and in such a convenient size. I still have most of the package left, but will definitely be buying this again when I run out.

Despite this spelt grain product showing up in a search for sprouting grains, they aren't very good for sprouting. Very few of the grains germinated. That said, the grains smell fresh and are clean. I'll use them for other types of cooking.

Instructions state NOT to wash, but after cooking when I took a bite down, I CRUNCHED on a large sharp rock! I could have BROKEN my tooth!! My front big tooth is still hurting 1/2 hour later!!

Soak overnight before cooking for best results. Love the texture and flavor. Most important, my husband likes it…trying to move to less beef in diet.
