S Is for Style: The Schumacher Book of Decoration

This is a large and beautiful coffee table book. My book has the black floral cover which is lovely.The book has a brief introduction followed by 16 chapters, each focused on a particular style: Exuberant, laid-back, high style, happy modern, charming, warm modern, unconventional, casually chic, updated country, ladylike, boho, opulent, trad with a twist, sensual & spare, preppy, and classic.Each chapter starts with a page for 'it's your style if...." followed with a second page of "key ingredients". For example, exuberant 'it's your style if....you think all-white rooms are a downer....you relish making a statement...., etc.. Exuberant key ingredients include flair, whimsy, confidence, etc.... There is a still-life of items next to the 'key ingredients list', and an index of the still life at the end of the book.Each chapter includes large full-page photos of rooms or spaces, alternating with full-page Schumacher patterns. There are also two pages of 'rooms that made history' representing each specific style at the end of each chapter. The captions are mostly the designers names and pattern names, so optional for reading. Mostly this is a picture book, and a very lovely one at that.

There are so many interior design books out there so the more one acquires, the more critical of the quality of the photos and content you are. I was so happy when I sat down and read through it and the photos are great. What is better!

This is a Shumacher book. What else is there to say besides top of the line quality, scenes, colors, striations, and variations regarding the most beautiful papers ever to be purchased.

Being in the business, I consume a lot of books on interior design and fabric design. Schumacher and Dara didi not disappoint. Like The Authentics book, the writing and visuals are superb. So many books on this subject are such an enormous disappointment yet Dara defeated the the typical dribble in creating a lasting dialogue on interior design that I can enjoy again and again. Bravo!

Very nice coffee table book. It’s large and colorful with great texture. It’s also a great book to look through.

Beautiful coffee table book with gorgeous photos and fun to read. It must weigh at least 10lbs so consider it a permanent accessory for your room.

This purchase is ultimately the result of watching an interview on YouTube by the author. I love how the book is covered in fabric — There are many books that focus on a brand, but somehow this was just not very interesting to me. I did like how the beginning of each Section invited the reader to assess whether personal preference resonated with the style presented. This is not likely a book that I’ll keep for the long term.

As a surface pattern designer, this book is so beautiful and full of inspiration.

Wunderbarer Bildband, mit schönen Fotos. Ich hatte aber mehr verschiedene Stoffe von Schuhmacher erwartet (also eine Art Nachschlage Werk). Trotzdem würde ich das Buch weiter empfehlen.Kleiner Hinweis: Das Buch hat 3 verschiedene Buchhüllen, welche man leider nicht aussuchen kann. Ich habe zum Glück meine bevorzugte mit den Blumen erhalten und die ist wirklich toll.

Beautiful & informative fun book the photo selections are divided into different decorating inspiration styles it’s fun to look through & read brief design notes & guides identify what stimulates you most inspiring & fun for different people to look through recognize their own preferences
