ZassenhausCoffee Grinder - 169DG

Has some flaws
I've never owned a hand grinder. I purchased it ~ 5 years ago. Flaws include: Difficult to hold on to when grinding more difficult beans, pointy surfaces don't help. Finish started wearing off the wood after maybe a year or two. Coarseness adjustment creeps on its own, you have to readjust periodically. Need to brush inside at the grinders fairly frequently to make sure grinding engagement doesn't change. The rectangular bin where the ground coffee goes is pretty small, and not an easy shape to pour into a French press or other coffee maker. The edge of the hopper "door" is pretty sharp where it closes against the press, and can cut wet hands if you're not careful.

good quality product
this is a well made product. gives a consistant grind. a bit pricey in my opinion, but hence is the cost for higher quality. at this premium price it should've been made with real walnut.

NOT the luxury experience we expected
We bought this coffee grinder hinking that, as a Zassenhaus, it would give us many many years of happy grinding. And no doubt this grinder will last many long years. But it would also be a misery to use. I mean, when you hand grind your coffee every morning, it is worth paying more for a grinder that will not only do a good job but be a pleasure to use. That is what we assumed we were getting when we paid for this top of the line Zassenhaus. What a surprise it was to find how poorly it is designed. First off, it is quite large. Bigger than we wanted but if that were the only problem we would have kept it. The real problem is with the hopper. See that little door? Instead of swinging freely away to open the hopper, it only opens to about 45 degrees leaving it blocking the opening. So you are left trying to shoehorn your beans into a small opening while dodging the door. Very poor design. Also, the bottom edge of the hopper is SHARP. Not sharp enough to slice a person but sharp enough to be unpleasant when touched. All in all, for the price I was expecting a luxury experience. Not with THIS grinder. We returned it.

Nice and functional.
No problems after 6 months of use.Nice looking, easy to use. Get some trial to find the correct setting. I use one full turn of the adjusting knob for drip coffee and two turns for french press. I really like how it looks, like a vintage grinder.Only cons, ground coffee drawer is small, but is ok for one or two cups.No easy way to dismantle mechanism for cleaning, I'm using Grindz to clean it.

Excellent, consistent, quality results
After careful research, I decided to try this grinder. Had considered electric models, some costing close to $1,000; but research indicated most electric models had various issues. Settled on this product and am VERY pleased. Using a French press, it produced uniformly coarse grind without all the fine powder that most electric models do. No burning of the beans, just a clean, consistent grind.

Very well made
I wanted to get a true fresh coffee experience and there is nothing like a fresh cup of coffee brewed immediately after the beans are ground. This product, although a bit pricey is well made and feels like it will last a lifetime. Please note hand grinding your own beans is time consuming. I only use it when I am not in a rush in the morning.

Functional and beautiful
Not only is this a really good coffee grinder that is very well made mechanically and easily adjustable, it is good looking on the counter. Great as a gift or to own. Worth the extra 75 dollars.
