I learned to drink coffee while living in Central and South America. My family did not drink much coffee so my mom bought my uncle's favorite for when they came. When I went to Peru everyone went out for coffee... It's a social event. So I ordered coffee and fell in love with the delicious full flavor of true mountain coffee. I use this coffee all summer to brew cold drinks of many kinds. After returning home, I searched for the same delicious flavor I had experienced before and found it is Gevalia's Costa Rican coffee. You cannot go wrong with Gevalia.

I recently purchased a cold brew pitcher that is supposed to make the perfect cup of iced coffee. I had a few go-to coffees in the past like and thought they would also work well in my cold brewer. Well, I was wrong. The taste just wasn't the same and I was left disappointed until I went to the store and grabbed this coffee on a BOGO special. I initially just liked the bag and though it looked pretty. I saw it worked well in a french press and I thought, okay, that will probably work well in my cold brewer. I went home and made myself a pitcher then waited the necessary 24 hours. I poured myself a cup and walk how rich the color was (good sign.) I added my coffee creamer and took a sip. AMAZING! I had found the perfect coffee to use in my cold brew pitcher. It is smooth and rich but not in a earthy way. It has more of a chocolaty, creamy taste too it which is what I prefer. What I loved is it didn't taste like dirt and it didn't taste like burnt Starbucks. This coffee reminds me of sipping a caramel macchiato at this old cafe I used to go to and love - it's THAT good.

Overall, this coffee can produce a great tasting cup of coffee. However, as other reviews have noted, this coffee is ground quite fine, which can cause some problems depending on how you brew it. Some reviewers said they had some grounds in their cup, while my problem is that my Ninja coffee machine frequently brews a very weak pot with this coffee. Occasionally the brew would come out right, but many times the brew was weak and overly translucent. (Using the Ninja machine's rich brew function improved the likelihood of getting a proper strength but even this still produced a weak brew quite frequently.) I wish either this coffee was ground a bit coarser or that it was offered in whole bean so we could grind it ourselves because it really is good coffee.

Discovered at the Food Lion in the dark days of the Pandemic when everything was so scarce! Have loved this coffee from the first mug and will drink only this brand and this particular medium roast now. My husband and I fall in love with it anew every morning if you can believe it!
