iPhone SE for Seniors: A Ridiculously Simple Guide to the Second-Generation SE iPhone

I-phone SE for Seniors by Scott La Counte
I bought this book as well as the I-phone SE Guide by Leaf Publishing. I liked the one by Leaf Publishing much better. Both books have all of their illustrations in black and white and I would have preferred color. This one for seniors, however is not just for SE phones and some of the instructions do not apply to SE phones (but they don't say that). It can be confusing in some areas.

Covered everything I wanted to know.
Helped me decide what phone I needed.

Rediculous book for me
I'm a senior (77) and I wondered if Mr. La Counte actually knows and cares about, has experience with, any seniors. Perhaps in an effort to be friendly, La Conte offers a running dialog of the slang inside his head, for me a distraction, some of it is condescending, some demeaning. For me there are way too many words that don't enhance the mission of the book, which also may be misstated on the cover (it's much more a comparison of iPhone SE with iPhone XR and, occasionally, other models. I've moved to iPhone for the first time. I found no intro for new iPhone users (perhaps hidden somewhere?). The Table of Contents is unrevealing, for example under his heading *Setup* he offers the subheading title *Enough About Setup! How Do I Use This Thing, Already?;* where, in fact, he introduces *Touchscreen Gestures* (my title); his title *How Do You Send Cute Emojis to Everyone?* in fact offers *Features With Options You May Select or Use As Is* (my title) for discussion of *Keyboard Use,* *Dictation,* *International Keyboards,* and *Predictive Text.* The layout of the book follows the same theme [his heading *FEATURE THIS* for an introduction to relevant iOS 13 features, the heading *Let’s Go Home* for discussions about Home Button, the heading *Mission Control…We’re Go for Flashlight* for information about Control Center. After setting this book aside, I briefly examined a Dummies for Seniors (9th Ed, about iOS 13) and found it direct and helpful. Perhaps I should avoid books aimed at seniors.

Needed more basics
I thought the book could have been slanted more towards non tekkie folks. I really liked some of it, but could not find answers to some things I needed to know. Being a senior I needed more help.

Not really for a newbie
I got my first smartphone, a new iPhone SE, and got this to help me set it up. It would probably be OK for a senior who has already had smartphones before and is switching to an SE but it was of minimal help to me.

Not worth it.
There are other, better books out there, I see now. This book has little, gray pictures with darker or lighter gray print, small pictures very hard to see. Also, as others have pointed out, the author mentions other phones besides the SE-2, and some of the instructions are for other phones but he doesn't tell you this. The index is a joke. But even when you find the part of the book you want, it doesn't tell much. He will say, you can go here and do this, but then he doesn't tell how to do this. Or, Don't worry if you don't want this anymore, as you can undo it. But he doesn't tell how to do that. A lot of the illustrations don't correspond to my phone. Some of them I can't even see, they are so small and the print so unreadable. This is really for seniors? Actually, I don't think it's for anybody.Just looking at the Table of Contents and the clickable parts of it, I see that the Missing Manual book on the SE is much better. You can learn a lot more by checking out the sample pages of the Missing Manual book than by reading this whole book. I am ordering the Missing Manual after the holidays. And it's cheaper.iPhone SE For Seniors is really not worth the money--not even near being a good manual.

Very disappointing book.
Very disappointing book. Starts from the point of people already having lots of knowledge of iPhones, so not suitable for a beginner. It was a waste of money for me - much better to look at the instructions on the Apple website.
