This is a must read
If you have ever thought of doing a backpack Hunt, this book is a must read. We know going into a backpack trip that Physically we will be tested. I’m not sure everyone knows how much we will be tested mentally. I enjoyed the author’s perspective on this part of the game.

Great for adult onset hunters!
As someone who is an "Adult onset hunter" I found this book very helpful. Its a great overview and will certainly make you better prepared for getting out in the field. If you're a beginner and want a great Broadview of how to get started then this book is great for you. After reading this book I spent 22 days hunting in the back country in total both in my home state and out of state. This book helped increase my confidence to go get after it. And now I've got 100 pounds of harvested meat in the freezer plus a ton of great memories.

Perfect book if you're at all interested in getting into backpack hunting.
If you're considering getting into backpack hunting regardless of whether it's for one night or ten this is a great book to start with. It's an easy read and from front to back it contains practical advice to help get you started. The author covers the front to back for everything you need out there and does it in a way that is honest and doesn't push his personal preferences on you. He is also honest about the reservations and fear that are pretty normal with heading out onto a mountain for days on end with only the stuff on your back your first few times and all the ways we convince ourselves not to do something. To sum it up, great read, practical advice and the right place to start if you want to try your hand at backpack hunting.

Basic info
This book contains very basic info but there isn't anything in it that you can't get off of reading a few websites online after a basic google search. The thing I was least impressed with, and I get it would be tough with changing gear, but the author doesn't do a good of being giving any real specifics toward gear or company recommendations.I won't claim to be the most experienced of hunter but have done a have spent some time out of a backpack and this book didn't teach me anything new. If you are starting out brand new and have no clue what you are getting into then maybe it will be a good starting point, but again it is likely not going to get you turned onto current clothing or equipment.

Great book and a lot of useful information.
This was a very good resource on not only gear, but other information a newer backcountry hunter may overlook. It's a lot of not only his experiences, but other peoples experiences as well. The read was super easy but very informative. I have been backpacking for years and only recently got into hunting. I am what was called in the book, "Adult-Onset Hunter." I am 36 years old and started hunting when I turned 34. This will be the first year that I combine backpacking and hunting together. This book definitely helped bridge the gap and made me think about things that I haven't yet.
