Road trip guide, not a super detailed city guide, but good

Very thorough coverage of a selection of great road trips, but oddly ignores others. One such major omission is California Highway 49, which follows the western Sierra foothills where the gold rush occurred, encompassing such tourist destinations as Placerville, Downieville, Angel's Camp, Sutter Creek, etc. A glaring ommision is California Highway 1 south of Big Sur all the way to L.A.; no mention of places like the Hearst Castle (San Simeon), Pismo Beach, or Santa Barbara. Also a huge omission is the major coastal destination of Santa Cruz.

While many guide books give brief and distant overviews of spots to hit, Thornton brings a personable narrative to his descriptions of stellar stops throughout the Northern Cali region. His descriptions pop off the page and make you want to get on the open road as soon as possible, whether you live in Delaware or Southern Cali!
