The Oscar Peterson Trio - Canadiana Suite

I am very aware that this is a transcription and heard all the criticism. That being said, it is one of very few, VERY FEW, transcriptions by Peterson, Evans or any piano jazz master that matters that are accessible to late-intermediate students. And that's important. I'm a teacher, love jazz, and love the look on my students' faces when it's time to do something different: I don't pull out Joplin or Gerschwin or Prokofiev (which are all well and good)... I play Hogtown Blues or Wheatland... and my students LOVE them!!! They are hard enough, and complex enough, and do him justice. In my opinion. Thank you for putting this out there. I have bought many many of these over the years.

It's hard to find good solo piano versions of more contemporary (i.e., post 1960)jazz, that are playable truly as a solo piece. Usually you have a piano partwhich needs the whole band context to sound good, or a fairly lame originalcomposition 'in the style of ...'.There are a few books out there which are designed for solo piano, and this isone of the finest. Beautiful compositions that range from classically influencedjazz to downhome blues and bebop waltzes. Oscar Peterson's classical training showsthrough in these arrangements.

I love this piece of music and I found it on a download on the internet for my husband to try as I got him interested in the piece some time ago. However the download seemed to be a 'boiled down' version so I went on the look-out for a full version of it. My husband loves it and it's so lovely to hear it being played live in my house. I also bought the CD so my husband could listen to it so it could help refine his understanding of the music in performance.

Kommt dem Original recht nahe, die Akkorde sind aber nicht zu 100% die selben. Die Noten gleichen eher einer Skizze, so als ob jemand versucht hätte, von einer Aufnahme die Noten herauszuhören. Aber besser das, als nichts.
