Lives in My Dreams
I lived close to Greenwood Cemetery when I was a youngster. My friends and I ramboled around there noting the great variety of architecture. We searched the ponds for frogs. My sister and I always wanted to locate the Lady in the Bathtub but could never find her. Now I have theI picture and realize why; she is located up high where we'd never expect to find her. In later years I always took friends to share my experiences. My architect friend Bill loved the great variety. I went with Dolores to find Lola Montez. I find in the book that she is there but under a different name. All this is fascinating to me. It's a beautiful place which lives in my dreams. I hope it hasn't been changed. I was also surprised to note how many famous people are buried there, including Leonard Bernstein.. I've just seen a special on this wonderful place saying that now classical music concerts are being given in one of the vaults. The acoustics are supposed to be fine...attendance costs $60.00. Good to hear though it's too far for me to attend.

This is a very good book on a great cemetery
This is a very good book on a great cemetery. I visit Green-Wood several times a year and I am constantly taken by its beauty and its history. I have taken tours on their trolley on several occasions and I have found their guides to be informative and interesting. The book is hardly comprehensive, unfortunately, as Green-Wood is gigantic and loaded with incredibly famous Americans who are often lost to history. In order to be comprehensive, this book would have to be 300 pages long. Still, worth purchasing.

Green-Wood Cemetery Up Close and Personal
After having seen Green-Wood in person it is easy to understand the passion for this place. The book could easily have been double in content and still leave room for more. The stories behind the monuments - the history of these individuals and their contributions to in some cases not just New York but to the world is a historian's heaven. The last sentence of the introduction speaks to the heart of this book "Green-Wood may be properly seen as a place of perteptual rest for the dead, but is also a way for the living to connect with the past."I hope there will be future volumes to look forward to.

Green-Wood Cemetery -
This book was purchased as a gift, but I couldn't resist browsing through it before wrapping it. If you ever go to NY, make the effort to get over to this particular piece of NY history, it is amazing. The mausoleums and marble work are extraordinary and well documented within the pages of this book.
