Agatha Christie channeled through a modern eleven year old
An old fashioned MG mystery with lots of contemporary style.

Fast paced and exciting
I bought this book when it came out and then lent it to my daughter, so I’ve only just got it back. It’s a really great read and I loved it. Having lived on a council estate in London, I could relate to the setting, the community feeling and the vibe so well. Also the smells! It brought it all back. I loved Nik and Norva, NSquared. Brilliant! I loved the writing style too, although it might not be for everyone. This is a very British story and would be difficult for kids in Europe to read because of the street language (none bad, just very current), but for young English readers I think it must be perfect. If you want the reluctant readers in your family to get into books, this is the best one to give them.

Mixed opinons.
As a teacher, I'm adding the book to the classroom library. May not intrigue every child but what book can? Its characters are racially diverse and it's set on a council estate...there simply aren't enough books offering this so it's a winner for me.My twins had mixed opinons on the book. My daughter loved it, couldn't put it down and now wants the sequel!Unfortunately, my son who has DLD and autism found it hard to follow the storyline due to the way it's written. There is too much unessecary information and coded language for him to access and get the inferences in the text.Every writers style is different, especially as this book is written from a 1st person perspective, he found differentiating between the characters thoughts and reality difficult due to the use of language requiring a certain pace of reading to really absorb the storyline.Just like any book, it will not be to every child's taste. But unlike the vast majority of other books, it's relevant in context, characters and setting....

Fab book for pre teens
Brought this for my 10 year old son, primarily because I wanted to support Sharna as I went to junior school with her & her brothers.Needless to say, it’s brilliant. My son finished it today & gave it a solid 10/10! He enjoyed the mystery, the humour & the outcome and has already asked me to purchase the sequel.Anything that can encourage him to continue reading is highly recommended in my opinion

Best middle grade murder mystery
I would give this 6 stars if I could. Hands down the best murder mystery book I’ve ever read. Love the tower block setting and the detective duo are really believable. The easy writing style makes this a suitable read for any 8+ good readers, but I think would appeal to any teenager (or adult!). Have just ordered the next one - can’t wait to read it.

The smell!
Vivid, pacy writing - a perfect crime story for 8+, set very much in actual britain, not some fantasy pseudo-edwardian englandland that so much kids' fiction takes place in. No twee nostalgia, just real (fictional) children solving crimes. A great duo of characters and tight plotting.

Review by Erinn
High Rise Mystery is a story of murder, curiousity and silliness. Help Nik and Norva as they solve the mystery of Hugo Knightley-Webb their beloved teacher and Antique dealer. This entertaining book is one of the best mystery, murder books I have read. This book challenges the mind of the reader to find clues and to discover who killed their art teacher. This story is especially appealing to readers because of its interesting front cover and curious blurb. This ambitious story intrigues the readers.People who would enjoy reading murder and comedic mysteries will suit this type of ambitious, curious book.
