This cutter will make slicing so much faster and easier!
Bought this cutter mainly for sauerkraut making, but can see that it will come in handy for many other slicing jobs! Sturdy and easy to use. The handle at the top is positioned in the perfect place to secure the cutter as you quickly slice through a lot of cabbage. SO much easier and neater than my old hand-chopping method!

Weston Cabbage Shredder is Great
Shredder was a gift for my son who loves to cook. Back in the day my parents did a lot of shredding and I told him that I would see if I still had the shredder. In the back of my mind I knew that Amazon would have a shredder and they never let me down. Shredder is well built and really works great. WE are most pleased with our order.

new version of the old original love it
my family has made homemade kraut for over 60 years. mother has had this same exact type of cutter for many many years and it was finally time for a new one. i was over joyed to find one exactly the same as the original. it has been used a lot since we received it. the newness and sharpness of the blades and the ease of new wood for the sliding feature. wish we would have purchased new several years ago. highly recommend this cutter ...work fabulous !

Great for the price, But not as durable as I would appreciate
I got this product for a great discounted price. I am very happy with it overall, but I my only complaint would be that when I hand wash it, it seems that dawn dish soap is hard on the wood itself. I have not started just putting it in the dishwasher because it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of a difference. I like the wood look of this product as well. I will say the blades are very sharp. So be careful! My niece cut herself while slicing up veggies for a family picnic. This seems to work fast and efficiently without the tiring hours it normally takes to cut up cabbage. I simply but my bowl underneath it so that it can catch it as it is shredded. I seen a lot of complaints but figured I would give it a try and see. So far it has worked just fine for me an my household but we don't use it daily either. The wood materials could definitely be made of better quality or have a stiffer more durable finish on them to prevent warping as well as peeling of the wood. We use this mostly for cabbage, but also for a few other vegetables and it seems to be able to power right thru them with ease. I am happy with this product, but next time I need to purchase a similar item, I will most likely look for something a little more durable that will last a little while longer.

Awesome slicer
Very sharp. I found that pressing down hard on forward motion & then only holding the box on the backwards pull seemed to work best. 3 slices per push. Then hand slicing the small remaining cap of the cabbages produced the best results. I banged out about 12 cabbages in about 20 minutes.I was worried about putting my fingers on the Veg being sliced, but it was easier than I thought, being very safe. Excellent purchase

Super time saver
I make homemade sauerkraut and have always (since childhood) hand cut the cabbage. I saw this and wanted to give it a try. I was a little hesitant because of the price. After using it one time I KNEW I had made an awesome purchase!! This think slams through a head of cabbage in about 30 seconds. Cuts easy and consistent. I highly recommend this cutter.

Secret to sauerkraut--very thin slices
The secret to delicious sauerkraut is shredding fresh cabbage uniformly, 1mm in size, in extremely thin threads. I would have kept this shredder because it is nicely built; but the shredded cabbage was just too big--1/4 inch slices. I did not push down on the cabbage--gravity did the work. I shredded one large head that fit inside the box in several minutes--much faster than using a knife and it did uniformly cut the cabbage into 1/4 inch slices. It's too bad that one could not adjust the shred size.

So Excited!
Oh, making sauerkraut was so easy this year with the purchase of this cabbage shredder. Awesome. I think some reviews of thick shred is from placing the head of cabbage wrong - you have to make sure you are cutting across the leaves - not with them. Also, let the shredder do the work. The blades will grab the cabbage you don't have to push down hard on the cabbage. When you start feeling resistance, you need to flip the cabbage because you are getting into the core. Which, I left the core in so I would have something to hang onto as the cabbage got smaller. The blades are extremely sharp.I am anxious to try the shredder with some other vegetables. Potatoes are not practical, but I think if I rubber-band together a bundle of rhubarb it might work.
