This is my second one
I liked the features of the player, but the power plug in became loose it was always cutting off and jiggling it a little seemed to work, then after some time I could not use it at all.I mainly ordered a second one only because the car mount was super glued to my car dash. That is mainly because the sticky pad was useless (as is with any other thing like that on my weird car dash shape). The player itself is OK, though watch the cables and how you handle them. Also, I am sure the channel 1 preset button, right over the power plug in, being mashed all of the time didn't help. It used to be for Stern, which was always getting mashed.I'd definitely get another player if you are new and shopping around. I only got this unit because it was in a bundled package at costco a few years ago. It is not very well made, and there are lots of other options out there now.

Sirius Xact XTR 8 Satellite Radio
I received a new Sirius Xact xtr8 on July 25, 2012. I had it activated but to this date Aug 21.I have yet to obtain a signal. The unit keeps reading "Acquiring Signal"I 've called Sirius service center (located in Manila,Philippines ) over 1/2 dozen times and their techincal support to no avail. They suggested moving the antenna around indoors/outdoors and even buying another antenna. I've tried the unit in the car and still not signal. Sirius then referred me to Warranty Dept, On Aug 20th, I was on phone hold for 23 minutes before a rep came on. Agent could not find my account and said they would have to call me back. Perhaps I should return this receiver to Amazon?

It ain't a Rolls, but then neither is the price.
The radio itself is fine. Doubt there's anything better in this price range. Setup is a breeze - never even opened the manual.I have the antenna mounted inside the car by the rear window and get a strong signal even in cloudy, rainy weather here in western Massachusetts. The XTR8 is on the far right (passenger side) end of the dashboard and the car radio antenna is mounted on the far rear end of the roof. The FM modulator is at 107.9 (the nearest audible broadcast signal is at 106.9). Absolutely no issues with static or interference, but I suppose it could be more problematic in a large urban area with lots of FM activity. As for sound quality, music sounds just as good on my generic factory car radio as any good strong FM station provides.Mounting brackets are fine except for the windshield mount suction cups which are utterly useless. But it's easy enough to mount anywhere else with the adhesive disk or velcro. Both the car and home mounting brackets are just brackets with no connectivity, which means unplugging and replugging all the wires every time you move it from car to home, etc. Even at this price level, that is an inexcusable design shortcoming. To use a car metaphor, I got a Toyota for the price of a Yugo, so I'm happy. Anyone expecting a Rolls should look elswhere and be prepared to pay accordingly.p.s. Would have given 5-stars based on price/quality ratio of the radio itself, but the non-connective mounting design was just too dumb to ignore.

Sirius programming is great...Xact XTR8 ain't so great
I have had this product since December 22, 2005. My use typically involves keeping it in my car, and then moving it into my office, and so on. In about March of this year, the radio began to intermittently shut off when I hit bumps or stopped suddenly. I would have to jiggle the power cord (which fits into jack on the side of the radio) in order to make it work. This power outage began to occur more and more often, and then began to become problematic even while the radio was just sitting on the shelf in my office. Calls to Sirius and then to Xact proved frustrating. Xact had unreasonable demands in order to provide warranty service, and didn't offer much help. They were reluctant and, in fact refused to give me the address of the main office of Xact, as I had wished to inform Xact's president of their shoddy service. In any event, as of yesterday, the radio died completely...no power cord jiggling miracle! I can either buy a new radio or send it to them and wait for them to take their time to return it. I am choosing to buy another radio. While this radio functioned quite nicely at first, it is not reliable, as you can tell from this and the other reviews...terrible customer service from the company exacorbates the situation. Stay away from Xact...

I love my radio!
After seeing an overall 2 stars from this radio, I decided to give my own little review considering I think this radio is great. Ive had it since about august of 2005, and it still works perfectly. I bought the lifetime subscription and listen to it all the time. After having XM for a little while, I switched to Sirius, because its obviously better, and this unit was available at the local walmart, so i picked it up and never looked back. Its unfortunate to hear the negative reviews, but I guess out of many, one. I bought the little boombox as well and that works awesome as I listen to it at home and its very easy to use. The only reason i didnt give this 5 stars is because about 2 months ago, the "antenna not detected" sign came up but figured out it was the antenna and not the receiver, since it still works 100% in my home unit. Xact has horrible customer service, and after emailing them twice with ZERO response I bought an antenna on ebay. Great Features on the radio, and I would recommend it.
