Powerful and intimate
This book presents the challenges and stereotypes of young women of color through their own stories. It was written for girls of color, so I am not the intended audience, but I found the book moving and informative. I’m really looking forward to Adams’ next book.

Insightful
I thoroughly appreciate how the author reflects Jesus' teaching style and digs deep into the depth and depravity of racism in our culture as she shares these beautiful stories of Black girls she's counseled and mentored over the years. Highly recommend this book.

The unique experiences of growing up as a Young Brown girl
This book weaves together stories of young Black girls whom the author met throughout her professional life. As a Black woman, some of these stories were very familiar. I either experienced similar feelings or knew people who did. It’s hard to place a finger on exactly what type of book this is as it has literary elements, but it is also somewhat of a reference book because the author bases her explanations in sources that are cited. It is also based heavily in the Bible, which adds an additional dimension to the author’s analysis.Overall a good read and informative, particularly if you are not aware of some of the issues facing young girls of color. This books brings a lot of those issues into a single place. You really feel like you understand what the girls whose stories are told were going through. It’s amazing how difficult some young people’s lives are, especially girls of color, yet they manage to survive and push through.

I received this as a Christmas gift from a friend and all I can say is WOW! I have never read anything that made me feel so understood as a woman of color! Thank you Khristi for allowing the Holy Spirit to work through you. You have put words to what I have felt deep in my soul! Words to the wounds and heartaches we have lived!
