"Peepo" is always perfect !
I first discovered Peepo! when I was living in England after the birth of my son in 1980. I believe that Peepo! has now celebrated its 30th anniversary, and justly so. It is an absoutely charming baby book--I suspect one reason for its continued success is that it works both at the Peek a Boo stage and at what I call the 'pointy' stage: "Where's the Mummy?" "Where's the Daddy?"Ahlberg illustrations are always wonderful, and I also appreciate their interest in fairy tales and nursery rhymes, and would cheerfully recommend "Each Peach Pear Plum," and "Ten in a Bed," but only after your child recognizes the original motifs [ie Cinderella, The Three Bears, Tom Thumb, etc.]

A precious book to read to babies!
This book is adorable and the images of it remind me of my grandparents' home in England. We read it over and over to our children and it makes a wonderful gift to the parents of a newborn baby!

Best baby/toddler book ever
I bought "Peepo" after hearing my sister reading it to her daughter (at that time, 2 years old) and her daughter who would join in as my sister read it.I recently had a baby and I wanted some quality children's books that I could read to her. "Peepo" is one of the best ones I have. I began reading it to my baby when she was about 2 months old - I lay her down and lay down next to her, hold the book up so she can see the pictures and read out loud. She lays there mesmorised by the pictures and the way the book flows (kind of like a song, with a 'chorus'), it completely calms her. The story is pretty cool, not like a lot of ridiculous nonsense kids books that you find nowadays.I love this book and will be reading it to my daughter for years to come (and hopefully any other kids we have!)

Better than finding Waldo!
Absolutely darling reader with fantastic illustrations that will keep you and your child busy searching the details in each picture. The hole in each page is just a "peepo"! (British for peek-a-boo). Every child should have this book.

Rythmn and ryhme
I love this book. My own children enjoyed it in the 80's. Many children I have cared for have been read to and had fun sharing it to. The rhythm of the story is great for little listening ears. I've just bought for my grandsons 1st birthday. I get what other reviews have said about being out of touch with today's children but then it's good for them to hear different vocabulary.I'd love to see it into 2 versions. This one and an updated. What a history lesson that could be.Here's a little baby one two threeLooks through the peephole what does he seeHis father sleeping in his high tech bed, his mummy straightening her curly curly head.Films have remakes why not booksStill rate it as a favourite. Enjoy x

Wonderful for language development
The negative reviews held me off purchasing this book for such a long time but we loved each peach pear plum so much I ordered this for my just gone two year old. Yes the illustrations are extremely cluttered and old fashioned but this didn't distract my toddler one bit. This book is a firm favouite and he loves asking for "peephooo". The detail holds his attention with plenty to point out and discuss. It has a simple story with beautiful rhythm and cadence that helped with language development through repetition. He has gained so much new vocabulary and can recite parts of the story. He points out objects and laughs at silly things like a skirt tucked into knickers. He has drawn connections to items we don't use for example the bucket of coal... "nana carries me bag of coal". Iron bed... connection to London Bridge song "iron bars bend and break" tin can "grandat kick can beach" after his granddad saved an empty can to bring to the beach to bob in the rock pools. Little minds are amazing. There is no preconceptions of what's modern or old fashioned as its all new and enchanting.

Classic that's so much fun for little ones
Brilliant book. Our first one - in paper not board - became damaged with so much use and this board book solves that problem. Easier for young hands to turn the pages as they intuitively put fingers through the hole, which in paper tears. Just the job for grandparents who may remember a time when the world looked like the pictures.

Every baby should have this.
This little book is an absolute joy - I now buy it for all new babies in the family. The simple rhymes are ideal for a tiny person, and gradually as the child grows it can join in with 'peeping' through the holes into the next page to see what is to come. The illustrations are magical, and it is possible to find something new almost every time you read. A little book from a simpler age , but with undertones of sadness as Father is in uniform and the family look far from prosperous; however, the baby is loved and protected by his parents, Granny and his sisters. Do buy this for the new baby in your family - it is a treasure, and older children love it too.

Lovely book, great illustrations, old fashioned but charming
My 2 year old daughter really loves this book and wants to read it again and again. There are holes in the pages of the book where you can peek to see what the baby is seeing, turning the page then reveals the full picture and the surroundings. The illustrations are wonderfully detailed and this provide a lot of things to talk about as you read the story. The story seems to be set 1940's/1950's and this adds to the charm of the book. In my opinion, this book would be suitable for children from 18 months to around 4 years of age. All in all, a very lovely book which I would recommend.
