What a Dame!
Excellent overall. Only thing I'd change is ditching the commentators. Never heard of those so called "experts" on fashion, female sexuality, women in films at the turn of the 20th century. May West in her prime could beat the pants off other actors of either gender. She was definitely one of a kind. Unfortunately, as she aged, she became pathetic, a joke to everyone but herself. But I suppose doing whatever is necessary to stay in the public's eye pays the bills. I watch this DVD often because I enjoy seeing May West in her prime - she always makes me smile - what a dame!

Mae set the bar
I remember Mae West when I was just a little kid. My Mom was big on movies and stars of the time; 1930's through the 1940's. One of the first films that I saw at our neighborhood theatre was She Done Him Wrong. When I got home after watching it, I told Mom and she was kinda shocked that they would run a film like that on a Saturday afternoon. Being around 7 or 8 years old, I didn't understand her concern at the time. Later as I grew older she explained to me that Mae was way ahead of her time. This DVD lays it all out there just how Mae pushed the sexual element and most of the time ended up in hot water. This American Masters series fully covers Mae throughout her career. I loved Mae West and every minute of this exceptional DVD.

A Great Bio of Mae West!
I love the detail of certain parts of her life - the people interviewed - I particularly loved seeing Rona Barrett! I hadn't realized she had only done 12 movies - and I already had most of them! If you are a new fan of Mae West, this is a must see!
