Fairies: Real Encounters With Little People

How to have a real fairy encounter...
This is a book about fairy lore and how the true stories throughout time line up with facts. It was by far, one of the most interesting books on fairy sightings. I can tell that the author, Janet Bord, really did her homework and researched everything thoroughly. There seems to be a continuing theme with fairies that carries throughout the book, based up the author's research. That theme is that fairies will not just warm up to anyone. You have to earn their trust, which makes perfect sense to me. It also seems that the people who actually had a fairy sighting, were not looking for it or expecting it. Overall, to me, this is a book about human behavior and fairy behavior and how the two intertwine throughout history. For example, there was one situation where a woman had brownies cleaning her house for her daily. The woman made the mistake of complaining about the way that they did things. After that, the fairies sort of punished her for it and definitely never helped her again after that. Fairies are really looking for gratitude and human kindness. Unlike angels, fairies have an ego, and they tend to wreak havoc on people who don't appreciate their kind acts or people who treat mother earth badly.Throughout the book there is a hint of mischief in how the fairies interact with human beings. The author tells true stories of fairies casting a sort of mesmerizing spell on people if they get to close to where they live. The spell leaves the person a little lost and disoriented. As someone who has spotted and taken pictures of tree fairies and the gnome that lived in the tree while I was in Sedona, Arizona, I found all of these stories line up.After taking pictures, after I got back to Florida, I had an accident where I dropped my computer from tripping on the cord. I lost all the pictures. As I was planning on sharing these pictures on my blog, I can't help but think that the fairies had something to do with this. They seem to like to go between the earth realm and the fairy realm without too much attention. If you are lucky enough to have a fairy encounter or would like to, it is strongly suggested you leave an offering for the fairies. A shiny crystal or bell, light an incense, or give them sweets. Fairies throughout time have displayed that they like this type of gratitude. Anyways, I could go on and on forever on all the things I learned in this book but I think it be better if you just give it a try and read it yourself!

My copy was misprinted
I purchased the mass market paperback version and the copy I received new from Amazon has a lot of shelf wear and the printing on the right-hand pages is running off the top of the page. A couple of the pages are ok, but most of them are missing the top half of the chapter title off the top of the right-hand page.It seems to be mostly a collection of Fairy sightings, focusing on retelling the stories. I misunderstood when buying it and thought it would be heavier on history of the mythology than it is, but if you are into "____ sighting!" type stories, or believe in fairies, it's interesting reading. I would recommend buying one of the other printings, not the trade paperback though.

just super info
I always knew fairies weren't these loveable adorable creatures of modern day films and fantasy stories. Theyre mean little buggers! terrifying actually! This book is very well written and very enjoyable.

Good book
This is a collection of reports to sightings of fairies or "little green men", a couple of UFO references depending on the era of when the report was made. Some date in the 19th century, but many people reported in the 20th. Entire as well. It is interesting to read the original reports. Much food for thought.

The fairy review
Very explicit about the elemental life of fairies and how many people have seen them and documented this.

Do you believe in Fairies?
This is a very interesting book. Obviously rational modern people do not usually believe in fairies. One can accept, as Katherine Briggs has suggested, that fairies always happened in the past, and so fairies seem to be (to me) something that people thought they experienced in 19thC Ireland or Scotland. It is therefore a shock to hear about sightings in the late 20thC, in places like London. There is also a small selection of photographs, taken well before the creation of Photoshop (the Cottingly fairies were of course a cut and paste job!). Since I have recently written a novel dealing with Irish fairies (who are descended from angels, human sized, and sexy) I was disappointed to find that most of the fairies sighted were short, ugly and wearing red coats. The striking thing was how similar the recent sightings were, and also how international these stumpy creatures, more gnome than fairy I'd say, were. However, when "The Malice of Fairies" is published people will be able to see which ones they prefer!Meanwhile, I enjoyed the book because it also, by implication, deals with ideas about belief, evidence and what we are really seeing before us. Most of the encounters are very simple and consist mainly of simple sightings, with no real interactions, but it does make you wonder what exactly is going on in the world.

brief short book covering many questions with no final answer
Well presented - much material available in other books but that's no problem - that is inevitable in covering this sort of subject which relies on testimonies from bygone ages when fairies were widely accepted and interpreted in various ways as being either dead people, interdimensional entities, devils etc etc fallen angels, etc - and in the a modern concept as being related to UFO phenomena. Somewhat in the vein of the Jacques Vallee books which were the best UFO books you could buy at the time since he does not go along with the 'outer space' theory as being the ONLY answer. Bord here does not have a final answer either, but the book is a really good read, even if the material is found elsewhere. Ideal for a newbie to occult or UFO phenomena.

Real Encounters with Fairies
After reading online about a few real encounters with fairies , i was in search of a good book . Glad that i found this . This book is an easy read, covers pretty much most of the stuffs about real fairies and their encounters with people , and about fairyspots around Ireland and nearby places . We all thought fairies were fictional beings and only appears in Disney movies and fairytale books , but i guess we were wrong after all . I mean just bcoz we can't see something , doesn't means they don't exist . Fairies have their own world which i came to know after reading from online sites , that their world lies invisible to most of us , and not all of them are nice little beings , some of them can be naughty or nasty too .The content is really good , but not the cover and the binding. The black colour of the cover is wearing out in many areas & the inner white color is showing. Used the book only 3 to 4 times till now. Also this book is binded in such a poor fashion (very tight binding) that while turning the pages , a deep mark is appearing on the pages , which is ruining the paper quality, as the text in the first page has almost faded due to the mark. This mark is a kind of mark that u would get if u press a peice of paper with ur nails. In my case , this mark appeared automatically while turning the pages. I always turn pages very slowly & carefully from the bottom, but the mark appeared in the left-middle portion of the page & so its not my fault.
