Great stuff
Olivia Manning is an excellent writer her crystal clear prose makes you forget that you are reading a novel she is a brilliant observer of people places and social situations notably marriage. For my money she is far better than Waugh and Greene who documented similar events and social scenes

Brilliantly evocative of time and place
I usually prefer to read rather than listen. But there are six books in this series, all quite long, and the first three are beautifully read by Harriet Walter on Audible.

The crucial heart of the trilogy
A super novel, the best of the trilogy in my opinion. But it needs to be read as part of the trilogy for maximum impact.
