A visit with the familiar!
The Icove case is being made into a big Hollywood vid. And while Eve loves being behind the scenes determining the bag guys and putting them away, she isn't so keen on going to movie premieres and being involved in gigantic Hollywood productions. But when she has to attend an event, mingle with the cast and crew, and make nice with all involved, she isn't so sure she will make it the entire evening. So when Peabody's double (K.T. Harris) is found dead, she wonders is it truly an accident or murder most foul. While initially, Eve is thrown off seeing someone who looks so much like her partner floating dead in a pool, she soon realizes that their similarities were only on the surface. The investigation soon reveals that Harris wasn't nice at all, between blackmail and a nasty disposition (she was the most disliked actress on the production), several people had a reason to want her dead. As Eve plows through the evidence and follows the clues, she soon realizes that Harris may be the first in a long line of deaths that can be attributed to a diabolical killer that wants money and power and is willing to do anything to achieve them both.I really enjoyed "Celebrity in Death" as I do the entire "In Death" series. What I really enjoyed about this one was the subtle exploration into Eve's psyche now that she has had time to digest the events that occurred in Dallas (Dallas to New York).....we see the effect they had on Roarke, as well as some of the others in her life. Each book allows us to see a softer side of Eve, as well as see her visibly healing from those scars inflicted on her as a child. We also get an opportunity to see her relationship with Roarke evolve and grow beyond the mere physical (although it was always more than that) to a deeper understanding of each other. Who would want to miss an opportunity to revisit those characters that we have grown to know and love over the years. There is ever steady Peabody; the ever present Sommerset; the quirky but lovable McNab; sweet but still healing Dr. Morris; the candy-nut eating techno-geek Feeny; the ever calm Dr. Mira; feisty Nadine Furst; and the captivating Commander Whitney. And even those characters we didn't get to see in this installation, are mentioned or referred to. You would think that I would tire of the same old....Eve gets a case... can't sleep... has flashbacks of her abusive childhood.... looks to Roarke for solice and understanding...refuses to eat a vegetable to save her life...lives on coffee during the entire investigation....snarks at Sommerset....and finally in a stroke of genius and good fortune, solves the case, either with a few scrapes and scratches, or a full blown injury......BUT I DON'T. I simply can't wait for NR/JD Robb to deliver another.

This Episode Is a Breather for Eve and for Us
This episode of the In Death series goes back to a sort of basic mystery and had less of the emotional intensity the New York to Dallas. It was a sort of a breather both for Eve and for us as readers. Eve is learning to cope with the events of the previous book and is having some lucid dreams that have her relive part of the experience. Roarke is worried about her and treating her more carefully than usual which is actually worrying Eve more than the dreams. The murder of an actress that no one liked is the focus of this story. Adding to the tension is that the murder occurred at a dinner party which brought together the cast of the movie with their real-life counterparts incuding Eve and Roarke, Peabody and McNab, Dr. Mira and her husband, and Nadine Furst. The victim who was portraying Peabody in the movie was a very unpleasant person. She was a prime manipulator who liked to have inside knowledge of the other cast members that would let her get some advantage from them. Many of the actors at the party had good reason to want her dead.Eve uses her skills to interview all of the suspects and uncovers something that makes her even more eager to stand up for the victim. This story was more in the lines of a police procedural than many of her more recent cases. But even though the focus was the case, it was still good to see the relationships Eve has with the people around her. I liked her relationship with Peabody as they work the case. They both have a strong respect for each other and respect each others skills but Peabody feels comfortable enough with Eve to tease her on occasion. I liked the relationship with Nadine in this one. Again there is strong respect in each of them for the other and a deep friendship.I especially liked seeing her relationship with Roarke. The love and support that each has for the other is just such a backbone of this series. But it is not anything either of them take for granted. Both are willing to work hard to keep their relationship strong. I love the way Roarke keeps surprising Eve with gifts and how uncomfortable this makes Eve. I love the way Eve constantly teases Roarke about his business. This was an excellent addition to the In Death series. I recommend it for mystery lovers and romance lovers.

The Icove case is being made into a movie based on Nadine’s bestselling book.
The Icove case is being made into a movie based on Nadine’s bestselling book. There is a murder of one of the characters portraying our wonderful gang which gives some a bit of a shock on seeing her dead body.Totally enjoyed the banter between Eve and Peabody in this one and it is about themselves, so funny.Peabody and McNab are super cute too.The fact that the death of the actress playing Peabody is the one killed, is lamented by nobody, not even her family, was sadly accurate and deserved. There really was nothing to like about her.Eve and Peabody do of course stand for her and by doing so, manage to clear up 7 other cases spread over 40 years, thought to be accidents or overdoses.I just wish authors would stop being lazy and write a full sentence, instead of leaving the clarifying end word off. How are people going to learn correct English otherwise? (“You don’t want me with?”) where is the YOU?Still silly errors making it through editing/proofreading. Shameful at the prices charged for these books.I have owned most of these books in paperback for years but now have them all in eBook format, so I am rereading this series once more in order, updating and replacing missing reviews.Even knowing what is in the future, it is absolutely no hardship to reread this series and I am really enjoying how all the characters are growing and changing.

Good
I love all of her work but this one took a little while to get I to. I still enjoyed it but not straight off the mark like I do the previous work.

Celebrity in Death
A nice cast of characters. Pleased to note that the victim was not a pleasant character so did I not have to feel sorry she got her just deserts. Dallas and Peabody handle celebrity in such opposite ways. Great story.
