5.5 IN. X 5.25 IN. Started from a lump of porcelain clay, this piece was thrown on an electric wheel and given a wide shoulder to accentuate the Copper Red glaze. In the electric kiln this is fired in, copper glazes need special attention in crafting their recipe to avoid oxidizing into a transparent blue celadon. After I've added the necessary local reducing Silicon Carbide, firing to cone 9 melts the ingredients to create an artificial reduction. To attain the stripes and patches of red is difficult. The contrast between the blue and red add a wonderfully attractive feature for any decorative vase on a table set or window sill.
