Bouncer

A well written fun western comic following a one armed bouncer who winds up roped into problems affecting the town and his bar on many occasions. The writers inspiration from Shakespeare shines brightly. This bande desinee alongside "The Undertaker" series is one of the best.

OK, as someone who reads French Graphic Novels and I understand the shock in the other reviewers comments.YES: It is Gritty, Very Violent and not something kids can read.But if you read French Graphic Novels you will understand that this is meant for an age appropriate mature audience.Among the great Western Graphic Novels, you have Blueberry (Moebius), Comanche (Hermann - never made it to English), Buddy Longaway (Derib - Never made it to English), Tex Willer (Bonelli - Italian, except one book drawn by Joe Kubert none of the others made it), Magic Wind (Bonelli in Italian and Epicenter for English), Cisco Kid, Jonah Hex etc.I would rank in the following order:1. Blueberry2. Comanche3. Bouncer4. Tex Willer5. Magic Wind6. Buddy Longaway7. Cisco Kid8. Jonah HexJodorowsky is a Master storyteller. Some of his other work with Moebius is legendary. This work is quite good, the art just lik the Franco-Belgian genre is up to the mark.This would be an OK buy from me.

Gritty and real while having the usual Jodo aspect, here being the one armed man and his tragic family past. Love the illustrations, Boucq's attention to detail is amazing in this utah setting!

Great story and great book.

I, thought that this was an excellent book.

I am no expert on comics, but this is the best Western that I've read. The stories for each of the chapters are compelling and filled with lots of twists. In typical Jodo style there are mystical lessons to be learned. The artwork is super with John Ford style landscapes. The artist Bourcq at one point was going to do Blueberry and visited the American West to study its landscape and I am glad he did! It is a slicker less self-indulgent El Topo or a more brutal mystical Spaghetti Western kind of like an amped up Once Upon a Time in the West. It was just as compelling for me to read as The Incal.

Jodo's best work in a while no doubt. The panoramic art is fantastic with lots of expressive landscapes for our one armed hero to squeeze through towards redemption and revenge.

Warning this book is not for the faint-hearted. Bouncer lives in a cowboy town that is far nastier than most any you’ve seen outside a movie from Sam Peckinpah. “Bouncer” (he gave up his given name) is one of the few decent souls in this town and keeps control in a bar despite only having one arm. He is tough, of course, and the stories are solid enough but please be warned that the bad guys are cruel and rape scenes are depicted several times in the book. Several boys are involved in murders and are in turn hung. The hangman is kept busy in that town but I didn't see much worth saving there anyway. While the artist is skilled, I just found this book too distasteful to keep.

Bouncer and Son of a Gun are two books by Jodorowski which are just very good with superb drawings. Francois Boucq who is the illustrator of this Bouncer is just superb The book pulls no punches and probably emphasizes the bad more than anything but at same time there's probably a lot of truth hidden in it. These books aren't just stories they're works of art and Jodorowski selects the illustrator to go with this stories. Jodorowski's background, upbringing and experiences makes him such a good writer and someone who knows people which shows in his stories time and time again, but the illustrator is a much part of it as it brings the story to life.The gist of the story is already explained by other reviewers. The only bad point and weakness in the story I found was where their mother had hidden the diamond. If the two options where she'd hidden it had been reversed in the story I would have appreciated it better.The book itself is heavy well bound as all humanoid publications are with high quality print. It makes you feel you've a real book and story in your hands.

Loved this book.The first few stories are brilliant.Great Art too.Well worth a read.

just bloody great

Si te gusta la violencia, degollamientos disparos y muertes sin sentido con escenas de sexo este es tu comic, en mi caso debería haberme comprado un integral de Blueberry con guiones más inteligentes y mucho mejor dibujo, debería haberlo ojeado antes en tienda, se hubiera quedado allí .

Jodorowsky me fez ler um gibi de faroeste e eu tenho menos de 50 anos. Só por isso já é um feito e tanto. E o melhor: o gibi é muito bom. Mas MUITO bom MESMO. De extrema qualidade. Compre sem medo de ser feliz
