Bjerg Stainless Steel Outdoor Thermometer, 12 Inch, Round (Silver)

You can buy a "patio" thermometer at any "big box" store for 1/3 the price of this one, so I was reluctant to click "Place your order." But, I'm getting too old to put up with junk merchandise that either doesn't work, looks, cheap, or fails shortly after you install it.So, I was sincerely hoping that this Bjerg Wall Thermometer would be a little bit better than the average inexpensive ones you can find everywhere else. And so it is; way so!First, it just looks "together." Fit, finish, crisp numerals, everything on center. The stainless surround has a very pleasing brushed steel look, and the face is high contrast, crisp lettering that's big enough to see from the pool, even though the thermometer is mounted in the shade of the patio.Of course, there's one thing that is of upmost importance, and that is a thermometer that accurately displays the temperature. I have a NIST traceable thermometer for comparison, and so I let the two of them stabilize side by side on the dining table for a few hours and the Bjerg matched the "standard" perfectly within the needle's nicely narrow width. Then, I repeated the process outside in the afternoon 100°+ heat, and again, a perfect match. But, the best part is that if it had been off, Bjerg attaches instructions for how to tweak the calibration if needed. But, in this case, there was no need.So, it's looking fabulous in it's new patio location, reading accurately, and just showing the value of its cost brilliantly.

Location is important; it has to be in the shade and then you can get an accurate temperature reading.

It’s in a partially shaded area, under a tree and a pergola. It is within 10 degrees of actual temperature. It looks really nice and is sturdy, but not a viable replacement for our old thermometer.

Product arrived on time and looks great. The accuracy is occasionally a bit suspect which is the only reason it didn't get 5 stars. I have compared its temperature readings with a spare Honeywell home thermostat I had on hand that I know to be super accurate. It compares reasonabley well, within a degree or so most of the time. Very occasionally it seems to be several degrees off but after a few hours it falls back in line so perhaps it takes a while acclimatizing. The thermometer is easy to calibrate. I have my doubts about how weather-proof it is based on some reviews I've read here so I installed it under the house eave. (Don't install any bi-metal thermometer in direct sunlight.) So far so good. Also got an email from the importer vowing to stand behind their product - this was a surprise and a nice touch of customer service that is appreciated. Would recommend it!

UPDATE (One year later) The darned thing has rusted! It's hanging under a roof where rain can never reach it, but the fogs we occasionally get during Winter seems to have been enough to cause it to rust. I paid a bit extra to get stainless steel hoping it would last, but it hasn't. It must be the cheapest, lowest-grade of stainless steel Bjerg could find. From five stars down to one. I wonder if Bjerg thinks the extra pennies they made was worth it, because I don't. Avoid this model.------------------------------------------------------Temperature is accurate. Easy to read. Glad I chose this 12-inch model over the 8-inch thermometers.I wish it were possible to find good quality spirit (liquid+tube) thermometers, but until then, this is a good product.

I had bought a cheap $10 one and it was off and rarely changed if at all. This was bigger and very readable from a distance. I have placed just outside my kitchen widow under a covered roof extension. Looks good, a little bigger than the cheap one. So when I had hung it, I checked it by using Yahoo weather for my town, and it was off by 6 degrees. So knowing it was and can be calibrated, I did and it was an easy thing to do. I have not checked yet if the thing will be accurate in a range of hot and cold. So that thing I do not know. Ya well it was nearly four times the price of the cheap one. As for now, I can say, it is worth it.

This thermometer is accurate, and has a nice large dial to easily read from a distance. On the back it has a keyhole mount, however, I chose to hang it with wire which is not the intended mount as I didn't want to nail into a tree. There are spring loaded clips that hold the dial to the housing, and I was able to thread a wire through that, and over the tree branch, Then I affixed a 2nd wire on the bottom to fasten it, so it didn't blow around. Worked out fine for me, but I would've loved to see some alternate mounting options engineered into the back of the unit. But good value for the money.
