Bach Trombone Mouthpiece (35011C)

My son loves the tone he gets with this mouthpiece

I bought the 11C as a replacement for the mouthpiece that came with my Bach 16. Night and day difference!

I would suppose that if you are buying this, you are a trombone player. And, I would suppose as well that you have experimented or are experimenting with different sized shanks, widths, and bowl depths of mouthpieces in order to finally nail the tone and range you are looking for. So I won't go into much detail about what makes a good mouthpiece for what kind of playing you are doing or your particular physicality. Fortunately, I did my experimenting when I was younger and mouthpieces were much, much cheaper. At 85 bucks a pop, it'd be tough to try out a lot of mouthpieces these days. But, the right mouthpiece for your individualized embrasure, technique, and style is as important as ever. I personally like to use a big mouthpiece like the Bach 2G into a big bored horn, but I'm old now, had COVID pneumonia, which was my second bout with pneumonia, and I don't have nearly the air capacity that I used to, likely never will. So, I'm playing my pea shooter again, a small bore King 3B sans trigger. And the Bach 12 I used way back in my rock band and marching band days still makes for that loud and brassy tone I needed for such. But for my purposes these days, I'm looking for a tone at least kind of reminiscent of the dark tone I get from my Big Holton symphony horn and 2G mouthpiece. And, what better place to start the experimentation but with the mouthpiece that the man with the smoothest, sweetest tone ever recorded used.Yes, this is the mouthpiece that Bill Watrous used. You likely know that already. Will it make you sound like him? Come on folks. If a particular mouthpiece could make you a G.O.A.T level trombone player, we'd all be playing like Watrous, and all for 85 bucks, beats practicing huh? NOT! J.J. Johnson used this mouthpiece as well, or at least one very close to it, and so did Urbie Green. But it's certainly no magic formula for a double high Bb my fiends. You gotta do the work and it's gotta be the right mouthpiece for you as an individual.That said, I like it! I don't think I'm entirely done experimenting, but that little bit deeper C cup is indeed giving me a mellower, darker tone on my 3B. And, I can still blow my top and dixieland out if I need to. But do I not have to cheat long phrases like I have been since I got sick? Well... let's just say it's considerably easier to get through them with the smaller horn and mouthpiece. Which does make reading and improvising a lot more fun.Now just in case you're new to the instrument, there are other brands of mouthpieces out there that are every bit as good as a Bach, some cheaper, some more expensive. But Bach mouthpieces are all I've ever ended up using. I've got some that are half a century old and with a little cleaning and polishing, they look and play just like they did back in the day. They truly are the industry standard, great horns as well.So, no, you won't be an automatic Watrous just because you buy his mouthpiece folks. But it is definitely a very good, professional mouthpiece, and a great place to start in search of that magic tone and range of his. In the meantime, keep practicing.

I actually ordered the incorrect mouthpiece and should have ordered the flugel one but the company quickly responded and acted prior to dispatch so that i ended up with the correct one! Love this mouthpoece.
