Fight back against the hordes with Wit Studio, the team behind Attack on Titan, Seraph of the End, and The Ancient Magus Bride! The world is overrun with Kabane, zombie-like creatures with an appetite for human flesh. While the last of humanity has retreated into fortress-like stations connected by armored trains, there are a few that remain as hopeful as Ikoma. Although he services the trains for a living, Ikoma has created a new weapon that he believes could defeat the Kabane.

English version on this blu ray
Nothing to say about the show only just started watching just wanted to say that there is an english version available on this blu ray it just doesn't say it in the description. The vendor should advertise it properly that is why only 4 star show seems pretty decent though.

Attack on Titan + Zombies + Steampunk and blend to completion
Attack on Titan + Zombies + SteampunkLets get this out of the way, this is the above set in 'our' world after glowing, fast zombies have taken over. Humanity endures behind various walled cities connected by train tracks on which great armoured trains run. Within the cities its a sort of feudal Japanese society with samurai and stuff, just they also have muskets and things. This is a series that starts out strong with great action, gore and 'largely' a likeable character cast (more on that later), unfortunately the series starts to rapidly decline from the mid-point onwards. Lets put it this way, the zombies are horrific - we don't need a shoehorned in human antagonist, it just doesn't work well here (IMHO) anyway:THE GOODProduction Values - Its a stellar job here, the CGI is perfect for the trains and ironwork's, the anime action scenes are kinetic and exciting although its worth noting that the best action seems to happen early on...Japanese voice acting is strong across board.Steampunk done right - Lets also call it out for that steam train design, the muskets, the samurai - the actual setting is well done and interesting. The various factions are believable and its an exciting world for a series to be set in.The Characters... - Some of them at least, Mumei starts out great as a strong female protagonist, Ayame, Kurusu also make for initially strong characters with set roles (the trainee leader, the loyal bodyguard). Many of the sub characters are also interesting. There is a strong Battlestar Galactica feel to episodes 3,4 which i really would have been happy if the whole series was like...OP - The opening track is great and really sets the scene.THE BADThe characters - The main character Ikoma, is grating, oh he is so grating...oh he is just a whiny Mary Sue. Mumei after her strong opener rapidly dovetails into 'damsel in distress' which is inexcusable, she was dead to me after she starts rambling about 'oni-chan', ugh.The second half - With the introduction of a human antagonist the series declines dramatically. The zombies take a bit of a back seat - the whole series just teeters on the edge of collapsing under its own weight. My belief is they wanted to make something fresh and different which they tried for the first few episodes, but then they decided to play it safe for the second half.ConclusionIts a good anime action adventure, perfect for those of you that liked Attack on Titan and want similar, I would rank this as follows. One Punch Man = AAttack on Titan = A-Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress = B-

Overpriced
This is a review of the format, not the show - which is excellent and quite frankly beyond reproach. The steampunk Samurai aesthetic, superb animation from Studio Wit (of Attack on Titan fame) and innovative take on the 'done to death' (sic) zombie sub-genre make this a fantastic Anime and well worth a watch! My issue is that at 12-13 episodes, the series isn't even a 'complete run' (ie. 25 episodes, usually the standard for anime episodes) and this collection as offered is very expensive on a cost by content ratio.12 episodes of anime on DVD should not cost almost £40; they shouldn't on blu-ray either, but that's a separate issue.Definitely pick this up when it falls to a fair price though!
