Best pedals for commuting or touring
The bicycle is my primary transportation in rainy Portland, OR. I need safe and comfortable pedals that I can use year around.Cleats are excellent for pedaling but the biking shoes are not very practical for anything other than biking.I tried different types of toe clips and some worked quite well. However, even the good ones scratched my shoes. Also, none were comfortable with sandals.I was initially skeptical about the straps but saw no better alternative so I tried them. It took some fiddling to adjust the Velcro straps just right. Once adjusted, they were surprisingly firm and comfortable. I used them with rubber boots, shoes and sandals. The straps held firm every time. Despite the snug fit it is easy to get in and out of the straps. The pedaling efficiency is not quite as good as with the SPD cleats but adequate for street riding. The pedals turn smoothly. It is too early to judge their durability but they seem to be good quality.Adjusting the straps entails pressing down the Velcro at the desired position. I wear size ten and the straps are roughly in the middle of the range. The same setting works for boots, shoes or sandals. Flip flops are the only type of footwear that did not work at all with the straps.I highly recommend this pedal and strap combination for reasonably skilled riders.Update: still going strong after a year and a half and three thousand miles.

I'm really not sure how I received what I did...
I have a few Fyxation units on my bike and thought that getting some strapped pedals would help with some added power on climbs on my single gear. Firstly, here's a bit about the pedals themselves before we get into the confusion of what I received...The pedals are HUGE, BEEFY, THICK, WIDE...for some maybe this hosts an appeal, but these things look like giant pedals for a baby's plastic tricycle. I really can't see the proper application for these things because on BMX, MTB, and streamline cruisers the chunkiness of these pedals will WITHOUT a doubt catch, scrape, and pose a safety hazard when making cambered turns.I knew right out the gate that these pedals are not for me, especially considering the many slim/low profile designs by many manufactures (Fyxation included!). Here's the real kicker to defend the 1-star review: I'm not sure if this is how Fyxation sells these units, but I received pedal straps that were not of the Fyxation brand and nothing like the ones pictured in the listing. There's actually nothing wrong with the straps themselves, but they are just not what is described, and to drive the point home - they are a completely different brand, yet packaged in the Fyxation packaging. For clarification, the peals are in fact Fyxation, just the straps are not.Sometimes listings offer old photos, so maybe this is just how they now come. Maybe I received a returned unit that was improperly repackaged. Maybe Fyxation tried to pull a quickie on me. Whatever the reason, in the end I am happy it resulted in a justified return, as the pedals are a true eyesores, heavy, and all around terrible for any type of performance that isn't riding a fat tire down to the beach.

High hopes, but shoulda stuck with my Shimano A530s
Bought a pair of these to replace my Shimano A530's on my fixie, so that I could bike to work in shoes other than my SPDs. Fyxation seemed like a cool brand to support, and I thought the look would go well with my State Bicycle Contender and Chrome bag. First, it was a little unclear which pedal the straps went on. Then, once I got the pedals on the bike I realized how much bigger and uglier they were on the bike compared to my Cr-Mo Shimano pedals. Finally, they're not easy to slip into at all while riding, and they don't have the easy in-out that I was hoping for with pedal straps. I think part of the reason is that the little traction studs on the pedals stick out so hard that you can't slide your foot into the strap smoothly. If my feet aren't in both straps, the straps hang low so that they drag on the ground if I'm not going perfectly straight, and now one side is super worn out after only a week of riding. And when I finally get my feet wedged in, they flex quite a bit, so the responsiveness on the upcycle of the pedal isn't nearly as strong as being clipped in (I thought it wouldn't be as good, but that it'd be close enough). Finally when the strap caught once and dragged the little metal buckle across my black crank arm, leaving a nasty chrome streak, I'd had enough. I swapped back to the Shimanos, and now I'll be lucky if I can get a couple bucks for them used.I'll be sticking with Shimano A530s for my next commuter/road bike, or maybe advance to some ATAC cleats. Bummed this didn't work out--guess I've got to pick up some more Chrome/DZR shoes.

A great fit.
I've been riding bicycles for 62 years. My feet have always pointed out at about 45 degrees at rest. I've tried and owned all kinds of clips and shoes to keep my feet on my pedals, all meeting with limited success. My shoes either popped off the pedals or slipped through the clips. Now I can ride both comfortably and securely. It took a couple rides to figure out the right adjustment and to slide my feet in quickly at startup, but I'll likely never use another device now that I've found these. And they look great too!

Solid Material, Excellent Design.
These straps are a little on the pricier side, but they work better than any other brand I've tried. I've had several other brands, but I always have issues with difficulty getting my feet in, losing adjustment over time, or poor durability. I have been running these pedals and straps for months now, and they have never given me an issue. The material is durable and doesn't seem to be wearing at the stress points where the fabric meets the pedal. These are the only straps I will use in the future.
