Lonely Planet Montreal & Quebec City (City Guide)

Still beats the websites.
This book really helped us find great things to do on our trip. The recommendations were all top notch. We attended a festival recommended in the book, found great kayaking spots with surprisingly few tourists, and found parking in Quebec City that saved us about $30 a day from what we almost paid elsewhere.Like a normal person, I still use sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp to find things, but honestly you can find better things to do in a book like this. This book was definitely worth checking out.

Great reference book for exploring Montréal
Months before my trip i read every section and made a little mark next to my points of interest. I read most of the content/stories but not all of them. The plan was to at the very least hit the points of interest and take every walking tour in the book. A few trials in with the walking tours, I stopped using them. I was getting lost and it just did not seem worth the time. They did at least inspire some ideas for what to do every day.The information provided was very helpful. I strongly recommend this book if you are planning a trip. I had a great time and filled every day of a 2 week vacation with wonderful memories.

Lonely Planet guides are always very helpful - when up to date
This edition is a very helpful guidebook - right now. Lonely Planet guides are always very helpful - when up to date - so worth checking last edition copyright date. They tend to update every 3-5 years and I have found that the out of date ones are not helpful as restaurant or housing guides and often have the wrong hours listed for attractions. When up to date, however, they are unsurpassed except perhaps by Rick Steves but he only does guidebooks on Europe.

This shows you most of the joys and delights of this area.
Fabulous cities, full of beauty, history, charming people and outrageous food. Both are wonderful cities to wander into all kinds of new and ancient districts.

It's Lonely Planet!
Excellent guide. We used it as our travel bible on our trip to Quebec. Sure, TripAdvisor is a necessary supplement for accommodations, but this guide, and its maps, are very much up to date.

Travel Guides and eBooks Don't Mix Well
While it sounds neat to have several travel books on you tablet while traveling, the truth is, they are hard to navigate and find the info you want. I like Lonely Planet guides, and I'm sure this is a good one. It is are to tell on my tablet.

Useful guide for first time visit
The enclosed fold-out map and the various district maps were very useful in getting around. I found the variety of indexes a little confusing, but for someone focused on places to eat or drink, they might be useful.

Usually am a fan of Lonely Planet, but this was disappointing. The book heavily highlights parts of Montreal that we found extremely touristy and not particularly interesting. We had such bad luck with a number of the recommended restaurants that after three meh overpriced experiences in a day or so we ditched the book in favor of Yelp and our own intuition and were much happier with the results. I feel we wasted a day due to the book's recommendations. And finding anything took referencing three separate pages--ridiculous. Wish we'd bought something else.
