Indigo, Da Qing Ye (Isatis Tinctoria) is a flowering perennial or biennal plant that belongs to the Brassicaceae family. It originates from desert areas and steppe of Central Asia, the Caucasus, eastern Siberia and Western Asia. The herb can grow up to 1 m in height and has a long taproot. The leaves are lanceolate and oblong, about 10 cm long. The flowers are small yellow and usually have four petals.
