Seems to be a better alternative to other thermometers
Overall impression: We love it. If you're on the fence, order this one!I ordered this item and it arrived in 3 days! I needed this because my kids were sick and needed to make sure they weren't running a fever. Glad it arrived so quickly so we could put it to use immediately. It replaced an exergen temporal artery thermometer, that was wildly inaccurate. I tested this thermometer on myself and so far, it seems to work great and is relatively accurate. It might be .1-.2 off, but it did come with instructions on how to better calibrate it if needed. All I really wanted was one that is accurate and will work no-fuss when needed. This seems to do the job.Out of the box, it requires 2 batteries. It came with a mini screwdriver so it was easy to install batteries and use in minutes. It also came with a little carrying bag. It was so much easier to use than the temporal thermometer we had. All I have to do is point and shoot and it gives me quick accurate reading of my kids' temps. I like that it is no contact, since with 5 family members we can all use it and not have to clean and disinfect each time, like we have to do with the under the tongue ones. This is especially great since my kids hate to have their temperature taken when they're sick. So far we like this thermometer. Only time will tell if it holds up. I will be sure to update my review if we end up having any issues. So far it's a good buy. 5*****.

Accurate and easy to use
I have been tracking our family's temperatures using a digital temple thermometer (DTT) in contact with the forehead as well as this IR unit aimed at the same spot on the forehead. I have recorded both temperatures measured within 30 seconds of each other for two months during which I acquired twenty pairs of measurements at different times of day. The averages differ by only 0.1 degree F in the device's "body" mode. For evaluation of the "surface mode" I used a NASA-calibrated research-grade IRT as the reference and generated thirty-two pairs of measurements for various surfaces ranging from 40 F to 125F. The averages for the two instruments differed by only 0.5 F despite the lack of consistency in the emissivities of the test surfaces and the wide temperature range. The device is point and shoot - the only cautions are to be sure the mode switch is in the body mode and the instrument is pointed at bare skin on the forehead or temple for fever measurements. For reading IR temperatures of objects, set the mode to "surface" and point at the object. Keep in mind that the IR temperature depends both on the thermodynamic temperature and the surface IR emissivity. The two temperatures are the same only if the surface emissivity is one (like a black body). If the emissivity is less than one, the IR temperature will be lower. That's what the "body" mode on the device does- it corrects for the lower emissivity of skin compared to a black body. It does not depend of the visible skin color - only the emissivity in the IR portion of the spectrum.I have made hundreds of measurements with the unit and have not yet had to replace its battery. The manual is small but complete and easy to read. I am delighted I bought it.

Easy to use
Since the pandemic, I've wanted one of these simple touch-free versions. This is the second one I've tried, so I have something to compare it to. So far, I like this one the best.Likes+ very simple to use+ looks and feels like nice quality+ very fast!+ appears accurate (see dislikes for a little more on this)+ nice, clear displayDislikes- does not come with required 2 AAA batteries and has a screw to close- these touch-free thermometers seem to read a little low, but this one is better than the previous one I triedUpon opening, I loved the bag and the quality of the thermometer. It looks and feels nice and has a clear instruction book.It does not come with the required 2 AAA batteries and you ha e to use the included screw and mini screwdriver to close. I like the secure close, but am not excited about having to find a screwdriver to change the batteries. I'll leave it in the bag, though, so that should help.I've found both tough-free thermkmeters to read lower than 98.6, more in the 97 range, but this one seems slightly more accurate. I like the clear display and the easy green and red backgrounds. Very simple and clear! We pointed it at the TV to see a high display.Overall, this is a good thermometer and I'm happy to have it!
