very short and too small. Looking for board shorts that are longer. Can't seem to find them, even in women's section. LLBean had nice ones, but they didn't have the right color choices. Seems that most retailers think girls should wear purple or pink or have some part of the clothing with the girly colors. That's why I liked this color blue. But, again...the size and length are not right...especially for a young girl who tends to be more modest.

These are board shorts. The draw string does not function to tighten shorts around waist, it only ties them in front. Amazon would do well to change this sizing chart to Kanu brand rather than a general Amazon size chart. Our thin 7 yr old is 46 lbs, 48 inches tall, has 22 1/2 inch hip circumference and 19 1/2 to 20 in natural waist circumference. She wears 6-7 on most items, and is more a 6 for size and 7 for height. These fit at the hips, and are closer to 24 1/2 inch inner circumference, and if cinched to their tightest might fit 23 1/2 to 24 inch hips. They measure 3 inches in length from the inseam. Our daughter is currently wearing an old size 5 pair of these from last summer that have become rather short. I knew they ran big from our last pair (which we'd ordered at age 5 and had to wait a year to wear), but hoped the next size up would work. They do not. Will keep for next year. Quality is good, as our last part has lasted over a year of swimming at beaches, lakes, chlorinated and salt water pools. Work well for triathlons as well. I would give 5 stars for quality. 4 stars b/c sizing & Amazon's size chart, are annoying.

Read all the reviews. I have a skinny 12 year old and an average 10 year that wear the same size (crazy, I know). So they both wear a size 12 in pants/shorts etc.. So I went 1 size down and bought 2 of these shorts one in pink and one in blue. The size 8/10 was loose but not enough to fall off their waist. The shorts are great quality, I had previously bought from the same company in woman's size. They are very comfortable and I highly recommend them.

I ordered a few pairs of 10-12 and ALL OF THEM have been shipped as 12-14; you (or at least I) cannot order these in the 10-12 size, so suspect the item IDs are incorrect between the store front and the back end.That being said, the 12-14 are 28" waist; I later ordered size 7 for my 10 year-old (24" waist) and they fit perfectly. Based on this I'm suggesting these run large, so keep that in mind (along with other's feedback).The size 7s arrived, as ordered, and appear to not be too loose in the legs (important because they are short and have no liner) but we'll see how they hold up in fit and form next week at river camp.

My daughter typically wears a size 6 or 6x pants. A lot of reviews said this item ran big, so I ordered both a size 6 and a size 5 to see which one fit better. The waist on the size 6 shorts fit perfectly, however, the legs and butt area were HUGE! The legs were flared and the crotch hung about 3 inches too low. You would totally be able to see inside her shorts when she was wearing it.These were one of the few girls board shorts that weren't made of a spandex swimsuit type material. My daughter wanted a looser swim shorts to wear over her swimsuit. I may need to look for boys board shorts to see if I can find anything that will fit better.

These were good quality shorts and were a pleasing length for my seven (almost 8) year old daughter which I appreciated. I dropped a star because I bought a size 6 in girls knowing my daughter was a bit small and the waist was still huge on her. It was also quite bulky around her hips. The ties don't cinch the waist up much at all but because we needed them right away, I sewed on a piece of stretched elastic along the back of the waistband and it helped keep them from falling down.They're serving their purpose for now and in the future, I can remove the elastic if necessary. I just wish they'd been a bit more adjustable already and not sized quite so large, though the cute fabric and good quality are both positives.

Size 12/14 ran very small for my regular sized 12 yr. old daughter. She could only pull them up to her thighs. I had decided to order two sizes based on the other reviews regarding sizing. Glad I did because size XL16 did fit her to my surprise. I do think their sizing is really off that's why I'm giving them only 3 stars. Unless you have a petite daughter then size should be fine. My daughter liked the shorts especially the royal blue color.

These are nice shorts, they look good and seem fairly well tailored and constructed.RUN A LITTLE LARGE IN THE WAIST: As others have noted, the challenge is the size. If it's helpful, a size 7 has about a 25 inch waistband (though it's meant to ride below the child's actual waist) and about 32 inch hips.NO WAIST ADJUSTMENT: If your child likes their shorts to ride at the waist - you may be out of luck. There is no adjustment at the waist, the velcro attachment (see photo) doesn't have any flexibility and the tie is just a decoration. They'll tend to ride a little lower down. This is fairly typical for board shorts, but FYI.SMALL POCKET: The pocket is small, which may limit its usefulness. Inside, it's about 3 inches wide by 3 inches or so high.NO LINING: There is no lining, so these probably won't serve as a bathing suit. They are a nice coverup for a bathing suit - whether for modesty or to reduce sunburn.
