Excellent and quite economic) woodpecker (and every other above-ground critter) feed blocks
Woodpeckers love it - as do nuthatches and squirrels; chickadees to lesser extent. Lots of fun to watch squirrels nibbling at it upside down or twisted around like a contortionist.Note - check your cage size - block is larger than some of the Walmart-type cages - of course fits the Kaytee large size cage just fine. Does NOT have any sort of hanger or string on the block itself - designed to go in a cage, which it really needs anyway due to its weight.Note - check alternatives on Amazon - up to 4:1 difference in price-per-block between single blocks and 4 or 5-packs.

THESE ARE HUGE!
I got the impression that these fit into the standard 5 x 5 suet cages, b ut they are HUGE - twice as thick and twice as long. That's nice because there is a lot of product - BUT I'm glad I have an axe. The pieces that fall apart when I play Paul Bunyan just go on the platform feeder, so no loss. Just be forwarned.

Best choice for woodpeckers and cardinals
Bought both Birdola and Kaytee blocks. Both came in the same Amazon box. Kaytee was in good condition while Birdola has come to pieces on all corners. Prices are similar. Kaytee has better seed mix with more of the seeds a woodpecker prefers. Birdola was largely very small millet type seed.

Squirrels Love this!
Besides the different little birds and doves that feed off this, my darling mama and baby squirrel love this gourmet mixture of bird seeds. Now that’s it’s getting colder, the squirrel family does not come as often. I miss them. Both mother and daughter would feed off this seed cake for about 30 minutes at a time sometimes. Wonderful buy. Such a treat for both birds, squirrels and me!

Wow, that's a lot of seed....
I didn't read the description thoroughly, and thought this was a suet block. Was surprised to find it was a huge seed block! No harm, no foul. I carved up some portions and stuffed them inside the block feeder. The residual seed which occurred, I sprinkled on the ground. The chickadees and juncos inspected it first. Haven't seen much of anything else hanging off the feeder. Still, at least someone is eating it.

Description doesn't match product
Description clearly states "Kaytee Wild Bird Seed & Mealworm Treat Cake, 6 Pack" but what you receive is what is pictures....the Woodpecker variant of the cake. I assume the birds will like it just as well, but I have been using the mealworm variant for months with great success and would have preferred to stay with that.

We stocked up but our state won’t allow us to feed birds right now.
We are repeat customers and recently stocked up but due to the songbird eye disease our state has forbidden bird feeding and watering. If you are in states Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and New York check with your agriculture department or Audubon Society before feeding or watering birds. I wish I knew if these need to be put in the freezer for storage.
