Watch Me: A Story of Immigration and Inspiration

I pre-ordered this book for my youngest grandbaby and a few days ago we had some time to sit down and enjoy it together. What an absolutely beautiful story of "Watch Me", I will succeed, I will do great things. This book is beautifully written in such a way all children can relate and the illustrations are beyond gorgeous. For anyone looking for a beautiful book to enjoy with their children, this one tops my list.A special thank you to the author for sharing his father's story.

Doyin (who happens to be my brother) is an amazing literary talent. In "Watch Me," he recounts the compelling journey of a man I know and admire, my father. Although this is the story of an immigrant, it is the quintessential American tale. By choosing hope over fear, confidence over self-doubt, and kindness over indifference, readers will learn how Dr. Joe overcame adversity to fulfill his dreams. If there was ever a time when we needed a feel-good story, this is the time and this is the book.

This book is amazing! The story told here is poignant, powerful and will help young people see new ways of accepting not only others but themselves too. We can all learn to be a little more like Joe — willing to brave a not always welcoming country so he could become a doctor and help others. For any young person who has ever felt different, left out or put down. For every immigrant who has ever had a dream. For every parent who wants their children to learn new ways of being aware, kind and inclusive. The illustrations are gorgeous in their own right. Highly recommend this book!

Whitney said it best. Our hope for the future lies with the smallest/youngest members of our society. This is the perfect story to introduce any children in your life to the idea that we are all full of potential and we must help each other achieve it no matter the color of our skin or country of our birth. This book will uplift and inspire children who are in similar circumstances as the main character and it will hopefully build the world view of children who are not.

This book should be on every library shelf and in every child's room to help children learn about refugee camps and the life of a refugee kid and what it means to leave their country and come to a new country. It would help a lot of children understood this at such a young age.

In addition to being beautifully illustrated, the message of this book is the true inspiration. It deals with immigration, bullying, racism, perseverance, and tolerance in a way that's perfect for young kids. In a time when we're in short supply of inspiration and positivity, this book packs plenty of both and is the perfect antidote to recent xenophobia and racism in the news. My kids (5 and 7) loved it and it's already become a bedtime favorite.

What an amazing story!! Doyin has done it again and captured exactly the right words. This book is absolutely stunning and inspirational. A true ‘you can do it!’ book. Bravo once again!

I found 'Watch Me' to carry such a beautiful and powerful message. I love how the story and illustrations teach our youth (and adults) empathy for those with different backgrounds and life experiences. The story teaches an understanding about the world around us and how we can all relate. It brings light to overcoming adversity and that being unique is empowering. It teaches determination through hardship can be inspiring and triumphant.
