Medieval Monsters

My late daughter is co-author of this book and I purchased not only for the information, but in her memory!

This book is absolutely gorgeous. I've always loved medieval illuminated manuscripts, especially the crazy-looking monsters, demons, hybrids, and whimsical figures that often cavort in the margins. I'm constantly amazed by the creativity and bizarre imagination of these medieval artists so I have been looking for an art book that focuses on them for a long time. That book has finally arrived! It is full of colorful high-quality images of awesome medieval monsters, along with a brief explanation of the stories or traditions that go along with the images so you have some idea of what you're looking at. I wouldn't call it a scholarly book, although I'm sure scholars would enjoy it too. It's aimed more at the regular person who just wants a stunning visual collection for their art library, with text that's easy and fun to read. It would make a really fun gift or coffee table book as well, since it's great fun to share with others.

Im not sure what value this book may have for anyone. Of the creatures it covers, it gives you only a basic overview of their place in the medieval mind. The majority of the book is spent covering demons and the savage races that people thought existed, and shows you tons of pictures of insane looking monsters with no description or explanation of what they are or where the pictures are from. Many basic monsters aren't even mentioned, like the chimera, and information that you could find in any medieval bestiary isn't mentioned.I like the pictures though and I did learn one thing that i didn't already know

Great quality, detailed photos. Got it for my partner who is an artist and loves to use medieval monsters as inspiration. This was the perfect gift for him!

This tasty little tidbit is pleasantly presented and deliciously delivered. It serves as an appealing appetizer to wet one’s whistle for a heartier, more in-depth study of medieval imagery. It is a great compact introduction to this charming subject matter, leaving the reader “hungry” for more.

Not as thorough as one may hope but INCREDIBLE clear and vivid historical drawings.

A truly awesome little collection of mythical monsters, pictures, stories and text. I really enjoyed reading it and being taken back in time! Thank you so much for collecting and compiling this in an easy to read, well presented book! 5 Stars, only because I cant give it 10!

Cute book with lots of pictures. I use it as a reference book when drawing or doodling.

Libro corto pero muy cuidado en cuanto a ilustraciones y anécdotas, muchas de las cuales son poco conocidasEl único problema es que la mitad del libro es dedicada a demonios (monstruos religiosos) y me hubiera gustado mas información de bestias y razas imaginarias

I only paid $8 and for the price it is not bad. The book is small (not too many pages) and by no means is comprehensive. It does have a few nice illustrations, very good thick glossy paper and good colors.

Es más bien un libro de centro de sala, ornamental, con un tema interesante. Si usted busca un libro donde se explique a fondo sobre el tema, probablemente encontrará esta edición algo deficiente.
