TaylorPrecision 5630 6" Dial Thermometer

I bought one and then another for my sister. So I am happy with it.

First off, the thermometer bracket is for side mounting the thermometer at an angle. It is not for mounting it away from the wall straight.Secondly, the thermometer does not seem to be accurate at all, even after adjusting it. It seems to like to stay on one temperature and then move a lot in a short amount of time. We have a digital outdoor thermometer and I am using it to compare. I purchased this to see the temperature on the porch for the winter, when it is closed in.Third, I think it looks kind of cheap.This thermometer is replacing a sunbeam that I liked much better. I purchased this because I thought, with the Taylor name, it would be a better product. Taylor has some great cooking thermometers and I expected this to be of the same caliber. It is not.

I wanted a fairly inexpensive outdoor thermometer that I could attach to a window frame so I could look out my home office window and see the temperature outside. The dial had to be quite large, as my desk is 12 feet from the window. There are a fairly limited number of choices for that type of thermometer on Amazon. I chose this one, which meets all the criteria except one: accuracy. It reads 8-10 degrees high during the day, despite being on the north side of my house and in the shade all day long. I have a friend who lives 4 blocks away and operates a professional weather station for Weather Underground, so his readings are extremely accurate with the expensive equipment he uses. I have called him several times during the day to check the official temperature vs. what my thermometer is showing, and his readings are always 8-10 degrees lower than mine. It's too bad that this thermometer is so inaccurate, because it was easy to install and the dial is easy to read from 12' away. For less than seven dollars, you don't expect a super-accurate thermometer, but 10 degrees off is way too much variance.

Large black numbers on a white face with needle easy to see from a distance. Seems a little on the expensive side for what it is, but it serves well and I expect it to last a long time.

I got this thermometer for my elderly mom. Strong wind blew it off a little patio table, and it seemed not to be working properly after that happened. I contacted the manufacturer directly, and their customer service in this matter was wonderful. They promptly sent me a replacement. I will definitely keep this company in mind for future product needs.
