21st Century Atlas of the Moon

Really nice book - but not pocket size as described
Love the book, love the pictures and the details and once I spend a little time navigating it, I'll love the whole thing, HOWEVER, it is not the size stated anywhere in the product page. It is a full 8 1/2 x 11 NOT the 8 x 5 pocket size it is stated to be. Although, at the smaller size, it might not be as easy to read, so I guess it's okay in the larger format, just be aware of the size if you are looking for a pocket guide.

Great for moon gazing
This atlas is a tremendous improvement over using an illustrated paper map - the detail is excellent and navigating is easy and intuitive. It's also something you can have it your lap rather than having to keep moving back and forth from a table to the telescope.Apparently there are a few errors, per other reviewers but...idk, unless you are an extreme 'Type A' personality, it's just fine. If there is an error, get a post-it or highlighter and make a little note. No big deal and well worth the money.

Every backyard astronomer will enjoy this book
It does have more typos and errors than it ought to, but it's still an indispensable guide. Use it in combination with astronomy software and online resources.

Excellent Reference
This is an excellent guide to our moon. The maps are very helpful for those who take the time to interpret what is seen through a viewfinder against what is printed on the page. The angle of the sun, position of the observer, quality of the optics, and variability of the atmosphere will all conspire to change what the moon looks like at any given viewing session. But the atlas provides good preparation and then reference when you attempt to identify key features.

Best photoatlas on the market today!
Wonderfully illustrated, using the best of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft photos. If you are a student of the Moon, this is THE atlas for you!

Each photo covers a large enough area that I could easily guide my way around the Moon without getting lost
This atlas presents all areas of the Moon with detailed, extremely sharp photos taken from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Each photo covers a large enough area that I could easily guide my way around the Moon without getting lost, yet the photos show details that are smaller than most observers would be able to see with an 8" or 10" telescope under normal conditions. The photos of Mare Imbrium show dozens (maybe hundreds, I didn't count) of tiny craters and craters within craters as well as small rilles, mountains and other interesting objects. What I like best is the high contrast of light and dark areas. Craters have deep black shadows as do the "dark" sides of mountains. This causes all features to stand out in bold relief. The atlas uses 28 pages of 6 1/2 inch by 8 inch photos to cover the face of the Moon plus an additional eight pages of the lunar limb and photos of lunar landing sites. For each large photo there is a page of detailed photos of specific interesting features for that area. The pages are made of a sturdy coated paper in a spiral bound book which has, so far, been able to handle the dew in my humid Florida location.Although the book may have some editing errors I did not find them to be particularly problematic since I just wanted good photos to guide me through the lunar features. The errors mentioned in several reviews may be more significant to longtime lunar observers.

This is the best Moon Map published
Beautiful clear Photos of the Moon. Very detailed and Large. Of all the maps and pictures of the Moon published; this is the best. Clearly worth the price they are charging.

A fantastic atlas of the moon, errata notwithstanding!
I wanted an affordable updated atlas of the moon to assist me in finding and observing the Lunar 100. For many years I've had Dinsmore Alter's Pictorial Guide to the Moon. The 21st Century Atlas of the Moon is a big improvement, with beautiful, clear, crisp images. There is a one-page list of Errata in the back, and this has disappointed and upset some reviewers. I sat down with a fine point permanent marker and carefully and neatly entered corrections in the text, margins, and photos. It took me about an hour, only because I was striving for neatness. I look forward to using and enjoying this beautiful atlas, and if another edition is published with the corrections included, I'll probably buy that too!

Cover damaged due to packaging
Book cover was damaged. I ordered another item with it and Amazon put both in one envelope. Not worth returning it but wish that I had ordered the two items separately. Great book though.
