It is teen idol time again at Jasmine Records! This time it's a popular actress who was pretty much forced into Pop idol status... Shelley Fabares. Features all of her US and UK Chart hits: "Johnny Angel", "Johnny Loves Me", "The Things We Did Last Summer" and more. This is amazing music from the immediate pre-Beatles era of US Pop and a must for all teen idol fans. Fully detailed liner notes.

Classic Sugar Coated Pop.
Shelley Fabares did not want to be a Singer. Like her good friend Annette, she didn't thin she had the voice or the talent. Shelley was an actress on TVs DONNA REED SHOW and she was told that if she did not agree to make records, she would be written out of the show, so, she complied. The result was a number one hit, "Johnny Angel", probably one of the sweetest and most innocent girl group records of all time. She hit again with "Johnny Loves Me" and had minor hits with "The things we did last summer"; "Big Star" and "Telephone (won't you ring). This CD from Jasmine collects all her recordings for Colpix on one CD and, although she would cut a few sides for Vee-Jay, this is the only Shelley Fabares CD that you need. The sound quality is excellent. I recently saw a video clip of Shelley lip-synching "Johnny Angel" on the Donna Reed Show. It's charming, but in a disgraceful sign of the times, the vocal backgrounds were lip-synched by three white girls who were obviosly were supposed to be classmates of "Mary Stone", Shelley's character on Donna Reed. In reality, the vocal backgrounds which really "Made" this record were provided by Darlene Love and the Blossoms, who were Black! Shelly would have had no say-so in this project, but shame on the Network for denying the Blossoms a TV appearance because of the color of their skin. Stiil, the CD is fun, and hopefully, those days are gone forever.

PRODUCTION IS EVERYTHING
Shelley has no power and no range so you get fabulous background singers carrying the load. And there's something positively perverse about Shelley singing "The Loco-Motion."

Listen to Johnny Angel you will love it.
She was favorite female singer in the early 60's. Very pretty and sweet voice. I could have listened to Johnny Angel all day long.
