Perfect Pleater
Awesome product! I make clothes for small dolls, and this makes those tiny pleats a breeze! Pleater is much sturdier than anticipated, and comes with very clear instructions for use. Making pleats couldn't be easier! I would recommend this to anyone. Great product! Good seller, item arrived quickly, and in perfect shape!

wrong item
I ordered the Amanda Jane smocking pleater that was shown in the pictures, imaging my surprise when I received a paper pleater. When I contacted the seller, they stated they had posted wrong pics and would refund my account. I returned the items a couple of weeks ago and I am still waiting for the refund.

Original Perfect Pleaser is NOT "perfect"
After playing with this pleater and watching YouTube videos about it, I found out that the one thing I bought it for is not something it will do: it will not make pleats with a consistent depth. The fabric slides around, doesn't tuck into the pleating louvers evenly no matter how carefully I do it, and gives me less than accurate results.

Not perfect, but it will do
I think it's an obvious mistake to call anything "perfect," because of course nothing is. This is in no way an easy device to use, and it has limitations, but it is useful. One key to success is the weight of the fabric. I struggled with unbleached muslin, pleating at the smallest interval, most likely because the material is just too thin to hold while being pleated. A thicker quilting-weight cotton held just fine while pleating at the half inch interval (every other one). I used a thin credit card to push the fabric into the crevices, and in all cases I had issues keeping the fabric straight. I had to take it out several times, press it, and start again, but I finally got it to pleat evenly by putting the edge of the fabric right at the edge of the pleater as I workedI have no idea how the addition of vinegar to the spray water is supposed to "set" the fabric better than simply steaming it, but I used the mixture as instructed. Even when completely cool the muslin did not want to come out of the pleater and would not hold its pleats. I mushed it back together as well as I could and ironed a light interfacing to the back. I've convinced myself it is artistic. The quilt-weight cotton did hold its shape after pleating and I basted the edges using a walking foot. I also put a piece of blue painter's tape down the center of the wrong side to hold everything in place until I use it. I will almost certainly back both pieces with facing fabric when using them, so the facing can take any strain. In summary, this is a useful tool, but only for small decorative pieces, like clothing inserts . The manufacturers pretty much claim you can pleat the world with it, but its abilities are limited. It's worth having. The price is silly.

Pleat made easy.
At first I had a lot of trouble using it: the material it is made of is so stiff that my soft cotton didn't go into the ditches ans didn't keep the fold when I took it away. Then I breaked the pleat one by one to make it softer and now its OK.Some other brands sell metallic flat ruler to go with the board and and think its helps to have the best possible result. I managed to replace them by an ordinary ruler from my little girl school box.
