Outstanding!
I grew up in the area that this all took place. It was very interesting to read about so many cases that took place in familiar areas. The authors wife was also one of my teachers and I went to school with his daughter. His recollections were interesting and I overall found this book to be very good. I heard about it on a podcast and was happy it was easy to find. It’s a good read and I recommend.

Great book
I bought copy for my dad. Then two more copies for family and friends. This was every interesting read. Easy to keep up with the details. I grew up in the area, but have been gone for 34 years.

Great read
Quick, easy, interesting read. As someone who has had the pleasure of have the author as one of my college professors some of the stories where known to me but others I had no knowledge of. My family is from that area and it's interesting to read able the history of violence crime in the area.

Provocative, Enthralling, and Tragic - Newell Nailed It!
Robert Newell has done a remarkable job of capturing the seedy side of Parkersburg, West Virginia during the 70`s and 80`s; a side that few citizens knew existed. His detailed recollection of murder for hire, gambling, prostitution, and human tragedy and suffering was riveting and, at the same time, disturbing. Newell is a remarkable author and I commend Violence in the Valley to anyone who wishes to be both entertained while being horrified at the inhumanity that police officers are exposed to on a daily basis.

Very good read
True stories from the town I live in written by our ex chief of police. Interesting and morbid all in one.

Book was bought for husband (me-who is writing the review)
I have lived in Parkersburg since early 1970's, worked in public (mostly in Emergency Department for many of these years). I was aware of some rumors/details on most of these crimes, but not to the extent described in the book. I know many of the Attorneys and Police in this book, and have seen/met Mr Newell many times in passing. I found this book incredibly interesting from beginning to end, and I feel it is a "must have" for people interested in the crime history of Parkersburg WV area. Thank You Robert Newell
