Good book
Excellent book. Very down and gritty. I think they made it into a movie. I will have to check it out.

Better Than the Movie
Even though I love the move The Grey, the book was better in my opinion. Not a super long book and the story is fascinating.

Captivating
What a great read.I bought this after watching the movie. It reads almost like a manuscript, but of course everything is more detailed, and there's a lot more of the inner monologue from the nameless protagonist. The environment where the main character works, North Alaska, is detailed and precisely described, with a focus on the weird personalities, whom, like our protagonist, is attracted to work in such a cold, dark, solitary place. The crash and the survival is described with great detail and realism, that almost brings you there. The final fight is a dreamlike sequence, that would be very difficult to portray on film.I found the ending poetic and beautiful.I really enjoyed reading this, unfortunately this is a VERY short book, or short story, and is over far to soon.Highly recommended.

Excellent Book
While The Grey book has everything that made the film the great it also has something else going for it, it is it's own piece of literature. The film was adapted from the short story, "Ghost Walker" and it would have been easy for Ian Mackenzie Jeffers to just expand the novel with the same plot points the film added, but he doesn't. For example, where the film has to rely heavily on expository dialogue between the survivors in order to get the point across, the book relies mostly on the inner monologue of the hero himself, Ottway. In fact, the survivors barely ever say more than a few words to each other. The book also fleshes out and tweeks Ottway's backstory without killing the mystique and grit that Nesson brought to the character on screen. Through Ottway's bleak put poignant Heminway-esque take on the world, Jeffers expands on the theme of man's struggle to face their human condition with dignity and grace. In short, I couldn't happier with the book and it decidedly literary, not cinematic, focus on storytelling.

It manages to be both very similar to and yet very different from the movie
I saw the movie first, and read the book because I love the movie. It's very similar to the movie but the feel is different because the literary Ottway isn't the same man as the film version. The book is good in a different way. Like a jack London story in today's voice. It's a very realistic portrait of what would be happening in the mind of a man in this situation, but the mind you're in isn't the movie Ottway, it feels more like one of the other guys in the movie. All that said, I did enjoy reading it.

Conflicted
This story is short, so be aware of the price you're paying. If that doesn't bother you, pick this up. The story is engaging and briskly paced. You're knee-deep in the action right off the bat, and you stay that way through to the end. Character development is fulfilling without being mushy, and you feel the terror and desperation of the characters as they flee from a pack of wolves in the Alaska wilderness. Action sequences have a whip-crack urgency that most short stories lack, and the author doesn't linger over the gory details. The author shows an obvious talent for capturing the drive and brevity of a short story. The story itself garners a four-star review easily, but I dropped it to three for several reasons. Mostly to blame are the God-awful punctuation habits of the author. The author digs commas in a big way and uses them every few words. It also bears mentioning that there are multiple typos in this edition. With a heavier editorial hand, the story would be easier to read and therefore deserving a higher review.

Ghost Walker vs. The Grey
First off for what its worth the true title is "Ghost Walker." Although it has hardly any similarities besides characters and their challenges this novel and the movie are two different entities. If you like Liam Nesson you will love the move. If you like a good survival story you will very much like the book. However, relationships in the movie don't exist and neither does the " once more into the grey.." quote. So if thats your favorite part sorry its not included. But overall it was a great book that kept me longing for the end of the day when i could read. Enjoy!

Almost Perfect. But Not.
Tricky one this. Not an easy book to review and, for that matter, my first book review anyway. I bought this book several years after seeing the film and in the knowledge that it was a novella created from a short story on which the screen play for the film was written. The cover of the book describes it as the novel which was adapted for the film. It isn’t big enough to be a “proper” novel though. Not directly linked to the review but indicating my honest opinion. The book doesn’t really know what it is. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot I like, and in many respects it beats the film for me. The sentences can be quite convoluted (the whole stream of consciousness thing) but they are mostly short and decipherable and the story becomes very immersive. The author doesn’t waste time painting backgrounds but gets straight in. It is impactful and gets you thinking. There’s only 150 or so pages but it feels longer in a good way. But for my money though, I don’t think the story actually gets to a satisfactory destination. The John Ottoway in the book is fascinating and flawed. His thoughts resonate. You can empathise with him. But ultimately what happens? Is it a bleak survival thriller? Are the wolves real or a representation of death? Is it the last thoughts of a damaged and dying man? It is an interpretation of how hard life can be before it’s all over? Does Ottoway kill the pack leader or not? We’ve all sat through the final credits trying to figure it out! In many ways it’s genius, but like so much genius it felt as flawed as the central character. I really, really wanted to like this book but at the end I felt I’d missed something. Maybe that’s just me! If you are an avid reader of more unusual mind twisting literature then read it. Heck, read it anyway, because its a book that deserves to be read even if you ultimately can’t get it. But I can’t give it the five stars I wanted to. Three stars. Just felt too cheated at the end.

A Grim Tale - Kindle
The book is similar to the film, which I had seen and yet is also considerably different. The writing is a little jumbled but perhaps this is in tune with the first person telling of the tale. I enjoyed the film and enjoyed the book to the same degree, although I did find that I could put it down. Or maybe, I HAD to put it down? Just to have a break from it's bleakness. Perhaps then, I should not complain that I thought that the latter part of the story seemed to be a little too compressed and hurried.Would I recommend this book? Yes.

favourite of all Liam Neesons movies
favourite of all Liam Neesons movies. I loved the story and usually the book is better than the film but in this case I like both equally. I encourage you to buy the book too. Would have liked to see what happens after the credits roll and he faces the alpha but on the other hand not everything has to be shown for a movie to be good.

Loved it
Loved this book, so much better than the film. I saw the film first and then discovered it was a book so bought it.It's everyone's nightmare, a plane crash, worse still in the middle of nowhere. They have to battle through snow, the bitter cold and most of all wolves.Found it a really good read.

Haunting
The prose is hectic and imperfect and so chillingly realistic that you can't help but feel this book instead of reading it. A flawed and lost antagonist draws you entirely into his mind and the links drawn between the wolves and the demons we all must fight internally are beautifully made. It is poignant and haunting.
