I've always just held a blade in my hand. This device makes it easier to get quick scoring done easily. I like the adjustability of the blade, which also relates to how easily it can be replaced. A very simple system that loosens easily with the provided tool and sets right in place. Good build quality in general.

I really like this lame better than my other one that had a curve for the blade insertion. The one that was curved made shaggy difficult to cut lines. This one is really great. I can get a great sourdough ear and I do not have to struggle with the cut. You can also angle the blade so that it goes deeper by adjusting screws. It comes with a key for the screws and extra blades! Handle is sturdy and not flimsy.I recommend it!

I've bought a bread machine a few months ago and have been trying to make French bread. I have been taking the dough out before it bakes so I can make baguettes and the directions said to make slashes on the top of the baguette with a knife after it rises before baking it. When I did that the loaf would deflate. I researched and discovered I needed a lame. This works perfectly for me. It made the slashes without deflating the bread and my bread turned out great. I like how easy it is to hold and make the slashes. I also like that it has a little cover for the blade so you don't accidentally cut yourself when putting it away.

So nicely put together. It's a joy to score my bread in such an amazing and easiest way.The wood is finished, it's soft to the touch, easy to hold and it can slash designs pretty good. I highly recommend this lame.

I have tried a couple of other Scorers and kept having trouble with dragging. This one does not have a bend like the others and is easier for me to use, the sharp blade it came with gives me a good clean score. Plus it came with extra blades.

If you are purchasing this bread lame, be ready to purchase another sharp blades. Because the five that come with it are impossibly dull, they tug and pull on my bread, and I don't get results that I need. Really, you should not change a blade every time you score a new loaf. Otherwise, the handle is pretty nice, easy to change blades, just don't lose a tiny tool that comes with it. Now, I need to find good blades, but not sure which brand to use.

My daughter requested this for Christmas and loves it...just remember it is verysharp.
