Good book
This is a pretty good book, with lots of good information. However I wanted to point out some things that were not emphasized. The home energy pie chart shows heating and cooling is the biggest energy user. However the author does not emphasize the use of several items. 1-Double glass (energy saving), double hung (helps vent in summer)windows. 2-Heat pump always helps save energy in continental U.S.A.. Also the winter heated air is more healthy. 3- Air exchanger lets fresh air in without loosing too much energy. 4- Grid tied photovoltaic cells, they are now costing less than one dollar per watt. Transportation is even a bigger user of energy, the author does not mention plug in hybrid vehicle conversions. Eating less or no meat saves a lot of energy because, the creation of meat protein uses more than ten times the energy, than say black eyed peas protein. I disagree about the wide spread use of bicycles in this country, it is not worth getting killed while trying to save energy. No mention of population and energy use. During say Adam and Eve days it made sense to be fruitful and multiply. But now is the time to limit yourself to two or less children, and don't make condoms and birth control hard to get. Since the U.S. population uses five times the energy as other people, our effective population is 5 X 300 million.

One of the best books I've ever read!
I found this book on a whim while i was trying to find another item so i could get free shipping over $25. I am so thankful that i found this book it really helps you get closer to God and mother nature. What most people don't realize is that everything we have is on loan from God and we should return it to him in good condition. Right now we are destroying the earth with our selfish materialistic lives and we need to get back to nature and God.A couple things in the book a disagree with are:Nancy says to heat most things in the microwave: PLEASE, PLEASE do not use your microwave more than neccessary. The microwave completely alters the cellular structure of you food and kills 85% of the nutrients. DO NOT MICROWAVE!Also, she says to use filtered water instead of tap, Don't do this either, the best water you can drink is distilled water. Buy a good distiller (around $185) and make your own water. Their are inorganic minerals in tap water that filters don't remove. Since I have switched to only drinking distilled water my arthritis has gotten better along with my skin and hair.I would also look into Square foot gardening if you plan to start a garden, it uses much less resources and is easier to keep maintained.

One of the best 'how to save the planet' books - Christian **or** secular.......
Nancy Sleeth has an extraordinary gift of writing - of bringing our beautiful world and what we are doing to it to a new spiritual plane. Her own family's experiences are blended with top-quality data analysis and PRACTICAL examples to create one of the best and most realistic green guides in the last decade. If you are familiar with the environmental problems of the world, you either become a 'deep green' or enter a state of despair. What on Earth can I do to make a difference? This book tells you. Day-to-day examples of how a little can mean a lot - at school, in your home, in your work place, in your yard.....What makes it unique is that it then follows Christ's teaching in suggesting how you can use any money you've saved to help environmental projects or those less fortunate than you in your state or across the world. And all the advice is underpinned by a Christian's mandate to fulfill the Kingdom work of protecting God's beautiful planet. Disclosure: I was a researcher for this book. Nancy transformed facts into flowers!

save stuff
A singularly interesting and valuable tool for any "greenie", this text is the ultimate for a spiritually-minded person. Combines the best of both areas: ecologically sound, and centered on the Bible. I would send this book to any friends who are confused about their own role in the society in which we live. This is a difficult time for everyone in America, and even those with an adequate source of funds will find money saving tips galore, to reduce wanton expense and therefore have more to donate/give away/share. Start reading and then start DOING. It is easy with this book in your hands. Thanks Mrs. Sleeth.

Good reference
Ths is a great book. I bought it after I read her husband's book "Serve God, Save the Planet," which was very convicting. Lots of great, great information in both books. The only thing I wished was that there was more ideas for how to implement these things in the home, such as how do you hang things up to dry so they don't get wrinkled (this is a lost art I think), how exactly to you wean yourself off of paper towels, what kinds of products are useful to purchase to replace paper products in your house, etc. But overall, an excellent book to have on hand.

Wonderful!
Nancy Sleeth's book is a simple, direct, and encouraging book about actually working to help our planet and improve our personal lives. I suggest reading her husband Matthew's book (Serve God, Save the Planet) first because he explains more of the background details about their decision to "downsize" their footprint and "upsize" their lives. Then Nancy's book provides the practical details for starting on this path. She's very realistic about the process, including honest discussions of some of their struggles and problems, but encouraging the reader that one person or one family really can make a difference.

Convincing GREEN message for Christians
In my opinion this is a book EVERY Christian should read ( and not only Christians). It is well written with practical and concrete ideas of how to take care of God's creation. Also there is much encouragement there - especially to be generous. Bravo Nancy et merci .
