I have concrete flooring in our home, and I choose to use futons because I find it relieves alot of back pain. And using a rug under the futons was not cutting. Decided to splurge and order these, the quality is very nice and comfortable by it self and has helped immensely under the futons. I've read many complaints about the smell, but frankly I find it comforting as it reminds me of when we were kids and would take the back roads with our Nana just to smell the alfalfa. Over all will return for an update after some usage.

Beautiful and grounding tatami mat. Exceeded my expectations! I use it instead of a rug and sometimes put my futon on it to sleep. Very happy with this!

Purchased to go beneath a futon / shikibuton. Does the job, folds well, and has a nice herbal scent, reminiscent of green tea.

Upon opening the box with the mat in it, it did not smell like chemicals at all. It smelled like hay and a bit earthy. Which is fantastic, it’s very well made imo! Had to return due to sizing issue. Emoor went above and beyond to help me out!

I love this Tatami mat, and I use it under my futon. However, I do suggest airing it out before use if you don't want your room to smell like hay.

It's a great mat. I fold it up every night along with my futon giving me an extra room in the apartment. It's also padded (of course). Takes me back to my days visiting Japan. Well worth it - and the quality is just excellent.

In Japan I had the good fortune of experiencing the Joy of sleeping on tatami. Ever since then I yearned to recreate the typical traditional japanese room.This is what I am doing right now thanks to this very neat folding tatami. Although lightweight it is sturdy. It fold in four, held by two élasticité bande that cône with the mat. Deploying the mat is super easy, barely an inconvenience.The natural and soul-soothing smell of ikusa now permeates my room. The greenish grass is thightly woven and held together around the edges and seams by thick and solidly stitched green fabric. The reverse side is gray felt. The feel of the matress is soft and smooth.I am very staisfied with this purchase and recommend this seller to any like-minded japanophile planning on recreating the japanese home experience.

Reminds me of the mats i used to sleep on. At my ,Amah's, Grandma's ,home. Good value for money. It's thin. Don't expect ,Judoka mat ,thickness. About 1/2". Layer it for more comfort...
