Ergodyne unisex adult Hi-vis Ranger Sun Hat, Lime, Large-X-Large US

I am a sailor who likes to sail long distances (e.g. 1200nm+) offshore in the ocean. I bought this "ranger" or "boony" hat to protect my face and ears and neck from sunburn. I have an extra large head (24.5" circ), and sometimes even "Extra Large" hats will not fit me well (or are too tight). This hat comes in XXL and I bought that size. I am very glad that this seller/brand (Ergodyne) has made this XXL hat (as few hats are made that size). I hope Ergodyne will continue to produce hats this large, as I think that is a competitive advantage as other sellers do not. I compared this hat to many others that look similar, and this one came in the needed XXL size. Others don't. I am very happy to say it fits very nicely, without any tightness. In fact, I like it so much I am going to order another one to have in case I lose this one. If I had a regular crew working for me, I would buy each person one of these. The high visibility yellow/lime color is very bright and is also good for sailors. The hat has two different reflective materials that really do work very well. The wide reflective band or ribbon on the hat crown is very good retroreflective material. In addition the hat has a narrow reflective trim that goes around the outside of the brim. Together these are very good at reflecting lights such as headlights of cars or spotlights or flashlights. This does provide a good sense of added safety visibility at night. The fabric used is lightweight, and the hat has a vented crown. I have worn this hat for many days in the hot sun and never felt "hot" under the hat. The hat comes with a very nice and long "stampede strap" or "wind strap" or "cord keeper" with a sliding adjustment button that works well. When sailing, I snug this down and can face the wind without fear of the hat blowing off my head. The brim is wide enough to provide good protection fo my ears and nose and face when under high sun. It also provides some sun protection for my neck. The hat material is light weight, so this hat can be easily rolled up or folded up and stuck in a pocket when not needed. But, because it is light weight, it is hardly noticeable when worn. I highly recommend this hat as a very good value, with outstanding features and functionality for sun protection and high visibility. By the way, I have not received any compensation or discount for writing this review. I simply like this hat very much, and consider it an excellent product, with outstanding value if you need sun protection and a larger size had for wear outdoors. If you are a sailor, hiker, walker, yard worker, field worker, farmer, or anyone who works outside and wants better all around (wide brim) sun protection in a light weight hat that is comfortable and easy to wear, this is a good solution.

This fit really well. I found it gets great ventilation and the brim gives good shade. I liked it so well I bought 2 more.

I'll start by explaining that I purchased this for work outside in the hot desert sun, directing traffic. I work at a school as a crossing guard, and an hour and a half a day in the hot heat of summer is very grueling, especially without a hat! I have been searching for a bright hat to wear, as recommended by our guidelines, and figured that one that blends with the vest would probably be best.This hat is very bright, which is great. It helps ensure that drivers see you, regardless of conditions outside. I'm not certain about the reflective aspects in practical use, as I work only during the daytime, but I can see light reflect off of the passive reflective strip when I hold it under a light, so I assume that it works pretty well. The chin strap is great, as it can get very windy here on a moment's notice, so it is wonderful to not worry about the cap flying off my head all the time. I can't imagine that I'd want to be chasing my hat around during rush hour! The lightness of this hat is great too, much better than some of the other shade hats I have tried. This in combination with the mesh vents on the hat make it a lot more comfortable during the hot months here. The cap has a rim just wide enough to keep the afternoon sun off of your neck, face, and scalp, which makes it a plus, as sunburns are a terrible thing to get while working.My only complaint about this hat is that the rim is very flimsy, and any wind gust over 5 MPH will bend the rim up or back, causing a bit of a problem, but nothing worth knocking a star off for, as the hat still serves its purpose quite well. The hat has lasted me for a month now with no other problems, and I hope to get even more use out of it through next year. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase, and recommended it to some of the other crossing guards as well.

I bought it for walking in the dark on city streets. It's just what I wanted and not too expensive. Only the band is actually reflective but it's so bright it almost glows in moonlight.

Wear this boonie hat on the jobsite and everybody will think you are a surveyor. So far it has held up well. The hat stays on well so I cut the strings. The push button thingy that holds the strings was put on reversed. Easy fix. Good buy for the money.

It is definitely a very bright yellow reflective hat. I would say it runs small and didn't fit very comfortably. It seems like it is made ok, even if it is a bit flimsy/light.

It’s a bright hat. It gets the job done. No complaints.

This hat is prefect for visibility, nice and bright. I ordered a small/medium and it fit over my head (22 inch) nicely. It's not too tight. The very top of the hat is rain proof. This part does not breath at all, so I punched a few holes in it with a hole punch, because I use it on hot humid days and I needed air flow. Good sized brim to keep the sun off my face, and the adjustable neck straps are great. Will be buying another one in the future.
