How To Make Spotted Dick & Other Suet Puddings (Authentic English Recipes)

My best friend lives in London and we co-host a baking podcast called Preheated. Every week we bake a recipe together and often my co-host challenges me to make traditional English recipes, which leaves me scratching my head over unfamiliar terms, methods and ingredients. What a pleasure to discover this book which explains everything, and, more importantly, tells you how to substitute! I made the Lemony Sussex Pond Pudding using the Instant Pot version and it turned out fabulously! What a pleasure to find this book full of Instant Pot recipes for traditional English puddings. I am going to be working my way through this entire volume!

While I appreciate the detailed description of how to use these recipes, there are essentially about only 20 recipes in this book. The author describes how to make the recipes then the second half of the book shows how to make the same or similar thing In an instant pot.It has a lot of good info on definitions of and how to obtain and use specific ingredients required for an authentic British dish but light on variety of recipes.

My husband just had to have this book as we are English and therefore need to prove to our American friends that this really is a pudding!

My grand mum was coming to the United States to visit. I'm a pretty good cook but wanted to make something traditional for her one night. It was a hit. Even she doesn't make this anymore but reminded her of her mum's cooking. Thanks

I realize that loving English cooking is considered odd, but I do love it. Small book but good recipes.

Love English food. It gets a bad by the ill informed.

I had decided I was going to make a Christmas Pudding this year. I scoured the internet for a recipe and came across 'How To Make Spotted Dick & Other Suet Puddings' (Authentic English Recipes). I used the recipe from this book (with a few tweaks of my own such as additions of different dried fruits)and it came out beyond fantastic. It not only looked great the taste exceeded my expectations. This Christmas Pudding was the hit of Christmas and the left overs just keep getting better with age. My only warning is with the flaming of the pudding, have an extinguisher close by. I am looking forward to trying other recipes from this book - if they are even nearly as good - they will be a success with my family.

Great recipes that most modern books won't include because aren't weight friendly. But if your looking for comfort food and childhood memories buy this.

I havent tried any recipes from book yet but will get around to it .... Cant wait to try the figgy pudding and lemon pudding. I found a few printing errors in book which is a bit offputting but i decided to keep it anyway ..

If you like suet puds,then this little book as all the favourites.
