Kupilka Gift Set - Cup, Platter & Spoon

A couple years ago I bought the tiny (shot-glass size) cup on impulse at REI - just thought it was cute. Recently I decided to look up more about the Finnish company, and learned about the other Kupilka products.This 3-piece set is a good "starter kit" for Kupilka. I bought the reddish color ("cranberry"). I keep the small platter #14 and the #21 cup in my backpack or field bag when I'm hiking. At first I thought the plate was too small to be very useful for anything, but it has proven itself to be practical in the field. It easily fits a sandwich and some veggies, chips, etc. My thermal Hydroflask does not come with a cup so I use the #21 cup to drink out of. I expect to get a lot of use out of these pieces. They look nice and are pleasant to use, and fellow hikers comment on them.Kupilka sizing is kind of odd by U.S. standards. The #21 cup is just shy of 8 ounces, and so it is a little smaller and holds less than a typical coffee cup. In my photo, on the left is a Tupperware 1-cup measure. When I fill it to the brim and pour it into the Kupilka, the liquid comes very close to the brim, so the Kupilka must be about 7.8 ounces.I later purchased the large Kupilka platter (#44) by itself. Because I had a hard time picturing how big these were, I've added a photo showing both, with an egg and a ruler for scale. The small platter is hardly bigger than a saucer - it's about the size of my hand. The large platter is bigger (or at least wider) than a paper plate and is kinda bulky for a backpack but is good for camping and picnics. I like them both a lot, but I might prefer something in between the two sizes, more like the size of a salad plate.Also, although the claim that these are "environmentally friendly" is questionable, since they are wood and...plastic. But using them seems so much better than using melamine or tupperware or whatever, and they stand up to water better than an all-wood plate or cup.

I have almost all the Kupilka pieces now and love them all! I’ve had the larger cup for a while now and this smaller one gets used everyday, too. The little platter gets used frequently, although my everyday one is the regular size. And the tiny little spoon is my second one and I really like them. Yes, they’re tiny, but they’re great for stirring cream in my coffee and taking powdered supplements and I use them everyday also, just not for eating. Very nice cup. The platter is rather small and the spoon is also. The platter is slightly larger than a tea cup saucer and the spoon is the size of a baby spoon. I had hoped to use thes for camping but they are too small. I will donate the platter and spoon to my daughter for use with her dolls. Very nice cup and will use that camping.

I really love this little gift set. It is little but perfect for putting in a backpack for a camping trip or just hanging around the camp site.

Found the on-line video informative and amuzing. Beyond durable. We gave it to our daughter as a baby shower gift. I think we'll name the baby Bam Bam!!
